So many agents want to know what are other real estate and mortgage professionals doing to generate business in this market.  They often ask, "Is social media worth my time or a waste of time?"

Once again, a Panel of Experts will share their ideas about online marketing, social media and how to generate new business.  The panel consists of:

Rich Jacobson, "The Kitsap Agent" from Windermere W. Sound, has written well over 400 blogs, and generated almost all of his business online thorough blogging and social media marketing. Rich was former Active Rain Community Manager who helped thousands of agents build a successful online presence.

Kendra Todd is CEO of the Kendra Todd Group at Keller Williams, in Seattle.  Kendra was the youngest winner on the Apprentice and worked for Donald Trump for a year in Florida.  Kendra is a sought-after national speaker, a real estate TV show host and has authored 2 books. Kendra has many innovative multi- media marketing ideas to share.

Mike Carpenter, Mortgage Broker with Elliott Bay Mortgage is an online networking expert who knows how to use the web to develop relationships with clients. He has a huge following on Twitter and knows how to stay in touch and engage both clients and future prospects.

The Panel will be held at Seattle KC Association of Realtors on April 21, from 9:00 - 10:30 am to discuss generating online business through social media and online marketing. These Panel events are filled to capacity, so reserve your seats now: 425-974-1011. (Cost: $10.00 to SKCR to defray the costs of the Continental Breakfast, which begins at 8:30 am, and bring a can of food for the food bank, Northwest Harvest.)

If there are questions YOU'D like to ask the panel - please feel free to post them and I will write up a summary of the best ideas and answers to Q/A. I have the opportunity to moderate the panel; I am really looking forward to this event. The ideas are so generously shared by the panelists who are donating their time to provide valuable information to their peers.

How many people have actually gotten business off blogs or active rain?

I think it is good for getting information and building skills. As far as getting clients and referrals, this has not helped us alot. For th amount of time involved, I feel it has not been worth it.

Thanks for your question, Lori. Many, many of the agents I train tell me that they recieve great response and good leads from their blogs. The reason is that the consumers feel like they get to know the agent through their blog which showcases their local market knowledge. When the consumers are ready to buy and/ or sell they are already comfortable with and trust the agent.     You can also follow the success stories on Active Rain- there are many! From personal experience, when I built my training business almost 2 years ago, I started blogging on Active Rain. Within 2 weeks a broker from Tampa (who had read my posts on AR) asked me present a seminar at their convention in Feb, because he liked the info I was providing the agents. I am from Seattle - do you think I was interested in going to Tampa in February?!? The key is to provide valuable content and be consistent. When agents say they don't have time, I am cheeky enough to ask, 'Well, what are you doing with your time?" "Are you spending 3 hours a day prospecting in this market?" If not, this is a fun and PAINLESS way to connect with consumers and have them respond, just like you did Lori. Let's hear some more success stories for Lori. Many of you are generating 70-80% of your business online.

THat sounds like an awesome panel of people! I used to watch the Apprentice back when Kendra won.

As for Lori, it's hard to believe she has not grown her business with blogging, and maybe she's blogging about the wrong things or in the wrong way to where people can't find her or what she's blogging about.

Thanks for the good comments, Donna. Content and visibility are key.

By the way, this panel was terrific. The main take-aways were to have fun with the social media tools, or you won't continue to use them. That social media should be a part of your marketing strategy, not all of it. You need to decide on and build your brand before you enter the social networking arena, so you have a consistent presence, rather than scatter your efforts. Use a few social media tools and use them well- don't spread yourself too thin. And, one of the most interesting comments wasthe need to build a large database and stay in touch via email. That concept has been minimized over time with social media. However, Kendra mentioned that her database of over 20,000 is still her best source of business after her sphere.

When are you coming to Seattle again? I'd LOVE to have you on a panel!
