Tradition of burying Statue of Saint Joseph to sell your home

The age old tradition of burying St. Joseph statues in yards by homeowners to help sell their homes has seen a resurgence.  I have recently read two newspaper articles talking about an increased sale in these statues due to homes staying on the market longer.

Some say the statue should be buried upside down!  Some say it should be buried next to the front door facing the street, and yet others say it should be buried next to the For Sale sign.

Not too long ago the market was so hot in Tampa, that sellers didn't even have time to buy a statue before their house sold.

Out of curiosity, I went to ebay's website and typed in St. Joseph.  On the first page of results alone, there were 13 St. Joseph statues, or kits for sale marketed towards realtors or people selling their home!

Of course, we all know the best way to sell a home is to price it right.  Perhaps this ritual helps motivate sellers to correctly price their home.

Your comments aobut the St Joseph statue really "hit home" for me.  I buried a statue in the yard of one of my homes I was having trouble selling - the instructions were to bury it upside down in the back of the house 1 yard away.   The seller was to say a prayer everyday to St Joseph that was written on the form that came with the statue.  The seller acted like I was crazy when I told him what he needed to do so I faithfully prayed for him (and me, of course) everyday.  The house sold.

I was having trouble (what's new) with selling a home recently so I ordered a statue online and the instructions were to bury the stature right side up facing the street  1 yard from the home.  The seller was to say a particular prayer to ST Joseph everyday.  I didn't bother telling him, I knew he would probably fire me the as soon as I told him.  I said the prayer on the instructions with the statue and the house just expired!

What lesson did I get from this?  I don't know, did I bury one of the statues wrong?  Was it because I said the prayer?  Should I have told the seller on the second home?  Or is it just a marketing trick to make us feel better to actually believe it may have something to do with selling the house besides the price?  Anyway, I  think I won't waste any more money on St. Joseph statues in the future.

Perhaps it works better if the SELLER purchases the statue and does this.  That might motivate them to price it right too!
