Pool measurements for the insurance agent?

By

Hey all -

www.saragoodwin.comI haven't run across this before, but then again, we don't have many in-ground pools around these parts.

I have an Insurance Agent that is requesting parameter measurements of an in-ground pool for insurance purposes.  I have never heard of anything like this before.  What is the point of the parameter measurements when there is no information on how deep it is?  Isn't it water volume (in the form of potential damage) that an Insurance Agent would be looking for?  Wouldn't he want to know about hazards like the the diving board and slide?  Should I always be measuring the parameter (and depth?) of the pools?

Again, please forgive my ignorance, but pools are pretty foreign (and perhaps a bit ridiculous) around here.

Thanks for your input!

Sara

Are you sure he isn't asking for the perimeter around the pool. In this area a pool must have a gated fence around it for safety puposes.

Hey Sara!

I have been asked for pool measurement and general volume on a plans & specs appraisal (cost approach vs bid), but not from an insurance viewpoint?  Are you doing insurance appraisal work?  Maybe you could call your personal insurance agent and find out what he thinks the other agent is looking for?  BUT...If this is an insurance agent writing coverage using an appraisal that you completed for a lender, I would steer clear...as there may be lots of liability if you give the wrong figures?  Just my two cents?

Hi Michael & Robert - The very vague question was simply 'do you have the dimensions of the pool'.  This was originally asked by the Loan Officer to pass the information over to the insurance company.  I contacted the Insurance Agent to confirm what it was they were looking for.  The Assistant said 'we just need a rough estimate for the paperwork'. I gave her a rough estimate over the phone.  I'm not sure that I should have.  It was not a perfect rectangle and I didn't bring a long enough piece of string to measure the amoeba shape.
