This is a very common road sign in SW Florida, the Florida Panther crossing yield sign. I get a kick out of these whenever I see one. Although the sign is fairly common, I've never actually spotted the Florida Panther in the wild.
Here are some interesting facts. The Florida Panther is 23-27 inches at the shoulder for males and females are smaller, and 7 feet long nose to tip of the tail for males; 6 feet for females and weigh 130lbs for men and 70-75 lbs for female. They're not a small animal! While they used to be found in other states, they're now only found in Florida, south of the Caloosahatchee River. There are estimates that fewer than 100 exist.
They're are conservation efforts to help this endangered animal. One of the most active can be found here: http://www.defenders.org/wildlife_and_habitat/wildlife/panther.php
