HUMANITY CHECKS........DO THEM WELL AND OFTEN.....

That's what I call them.....let me explain. You see every once in a while, wherever I go or wherever I am, I do something I normally don't do. I actually look for the opportunity. I'll name a few even though there are hundreds of examples....... For instance......

I saw three young boys riding their bikes the other day. They could have been you or me when we were kids. I decided to buy them all an Ice cream. The convenience store was right there.....I invited them in and told them to pick-out whatever they wanted.....

I often take back a cart to the grocery store. I don't go out of my way, but I am aware of it.

I always ask others if they need help unloading or loading. I helped a woman with a huge purchase load it on top of her car after she couldn't get it inside.

I often see people counting their change when they are ordering something....sometimes I just pick-up the tab...or make up the difference for no reason, no big deal.

While shopping at a toy store the other day, I had used a gift card.  The balance of $1.50 I gave to a women With three kids. It wasn't much. It was just a pleasant thought and acknowledgment from me to her.

I was in a video store with a friend when a young kid kept asking how much would a movie and candy bar cost. When he was told, he did some quick math and then he said... how much do they cost separately? I knew he was going to choose one or the other, because he didn't have enough. I paid for the overage. He took both.

I pick up a neighbors paper and throw it closer to their door. I may do the same with their trash cans.

I always carried water and snack bars for the homeless who asked for something to eat. I am thinking about buying some bulk tooth brushes and tooth paste as well so I can hand those out too.

I have washed a neighbors car, help dig trenches for flowers. I have directed traffic at the scene of an accident.

I have picked things up on the freeway that someone had dropped...it stopped all traffic and everyone was just going around it...I put on flashers, got out and proceeded to move it to the side. I have done this more than once. One time, the cars in back of me held traffic up until I got back in my car. Another time, a man got out and helped me with a heavy mattress.

I saw someone at the criminal court house. A young man going through the system. He was so down and distraught...definitely in trouble. I approached him with words of encouragement....be sorry for what you have done. Then, know that this will pass and don't ever come back here again. Learn your lesson well and then go out and do great things....he wept. It cost me nothing...

I met a man who just got out of jail...smart, young intelligent and broke. It could have been me or you. Hungry too!. After getting to know him and discerning he was real and in need.....Bought him a sandwich, gave him $5.00 and told him to change his ways. He only needed to hear it from someone who cared.

I am not doing anything that hasn't been done before. What happened? Where did everyone go? Many years ago, I answered that question..........It was me who left.

When I first started humanity checks years ago...it was awkward to get back into this flow. I made some mistakes and refined it..... to where the deed does the work and not me. I use discernment, I do not solicit business, give my name or want anything in return. My motives are pure and my actions are not driven by guilt. I am not willful and always ask permission.
