The challenge was to read the excerpt (Original) and pick one of the exercises.  I chose excersize on page 39 and sent 3 questions out to my dearest friends.  

The whole point of the exercise is self awareness through a community of dear friends.   I have definitely learned a bunch about myself.

Now I gave them complete license to be honest.  I included the following so you can see some of the responses.. get to know me through the eyes of my friends.

I am doing an exercise on LIFE! By Design and I need your help with it.   you are one of my closest friends ...

You have my permission to be totally honest ...yikkkes here goes ...

3 easy questions for personal growth and development ...

1. what do you admire about me?

  • Your work ethic is fantastic, Your self growth and/or your focus on learning is very impressive, Your attention to detail - great, Your follow through is the best I have ever seen!!!!!
  • You drive, compassion, dedication to your friends and openness to meeting new ones.  Your smile.  
  • Your sense of humor, your sponteneity, your openness to life and spirituality, your willingness to look at yourself, your motivation and energy.
  • Your strong will, tenacity and perseverance. You always show that you’re in a good mood even when you’re not. Your continuous thirst for learning and improving yourself.
  • I admire the fact that you are willing to be open with your personal feelings & share them with people who matter to you. I admire that you are happy and energetic and willing to teach others some things you know. I admire that you share your ahas with me. I admire that you constantly learn things about yourself and continue to work on growing. That is remarkable. You make your friends feel loved and appreciated. Not everybody is able to do that and it’s a REALLY important thing in people’s lives……..to feel that they are loved and appreciated. That makes people recognize that you are VERY special……..and that they would miss you if you were gone.

2. what do you see that I do that really works for me?

  • Your preparedness, Your attention to detail, Your follow through, Your honesty, Your ability to stay connected via: phone, facebook, twitter, inkedin, mail and e-mail!
  • Your commitment to bettering yourself
  • Use all of the above to your advantage.
  • Your honesty, attention to the clients, you make them feel #1, marketing skills you’re great at that, always seeking new avenues and wanting to learn more (although sometimes you may waste your time on certain things that you later discover not useful)
  • You always look very polished and snappy. You take a lot of training and work toward using that to make your business better…..and to make yourself better. Also you eat healthy and exercise. You take good care of yourself and I think that really works for you. You sometimes use humor to make a good point with your friends and clients, even things that are hard for them to know. And by using the humor, it puts them in the mode to accept what you say. That REALLY works and it draws people to you.

3. what actions do you see that I do that really don't work for me?

  • Sometimes I think you need to slow down just a little. Talk a little slower. Not always. But sometimes. Especially when you are excited  about something. Even though your excitement can be contagious.
  • Your stubbornness, especially when someone is only trying to help you.  Your ability to get bogged down in the process and not move forward.
  • Kind of off in a lot of directions, unfocused. But I don't think it's in all areas of your life.
  • Analyze more before jumping onto something, I refer mostly to the training and classes that you take too much of and spend too much time and money on. Sometimes you’re gullible. Your spontaneity may sometimes work against you.
  • You let yourself worry over things that you CANNOT change. Because of that it makes you insecure about things about which you should NOT be insecure. Your letting yourself get into this worry mode makes you stress about things that bring you down from your normal balanced state, happy and funny and  calm. You tend to overthink things. So when you ask for help or questions, you are already racing ahead instead of taking a deep breath and writing down 1, 2, 3 and getting the answer the first time you ask the question. You let yourself get too revved up to “hear” your clients/friends, etc. Sometimes it’s just good to go and sit down and ask the question and get the answer and relax awhile instead of charging ahead and going back over it again. If you would sit calmly and listen the first time, you would get it. I think that would save you a lot of time and stress. This would also help you with your clients and their “ragging” on you. Just relax and give them a bit of yourself and stop trying to give the first lightening speed answer that comes into your head. Slow down and let them know you CARE.

LIFE! By Design .. Lessons

I was really surprised by some of the responses.  Some of them I knew about myself, while others made me stop and think about how/why I do things.  One thing that did come up for me was the desire to defend those negative parts.  Gosh I got that perfection thing down.  LOL.  Oh well.  Moving forward and focusing.
