To be successful you have to persevere – 7 simple ways to make it happen

Think about it, we can all learn a lot about perseverance from toddlers.  When you watch a young child just learning to walk - they keep falling and getting back up.  They are so determined to gain that freedom, reach that next milestone and they do all that they can to get it right.

So why is it that as adults we lose that ability or vision and we simply throw our hands up in the air and say "I give up" when things don't go our way?  We often forget that "failure" and setbacks are part of our learning process and what drives us toward success.

Sometimes we are dealt a tough hand, but it's how we choose to approach and tackle those challenges that will make all the difference.  Think about some of your challenges - pick a recent one - did you persevere (stick with it) - what happened? Or did you give up - abandon your goal or dream - why?

We are all entrepreneurs and trying to find ways to either get our business going or to take our existing businesses to new levels.  I for one am doing all I can to persevere - failure is not an option for me and hope it isn't for you either.  If I choose to accept failure and focus on what I don't have vs. what I do have or to focus on the setbacks vs. what I go do to move myself and my business forward then I am essentially giving up on myself.  I would like to think that I'm worth a whole lot more.

So what does it take to persevere?

  1. Surround yourself with like minded people who are driven to achieving their goals and supportive of you achieving yours.
  2. Avoid negativity at all costs.  Believe in yourself and stay clear of the "energy suckers" and create a support system team that doesn't tell you "you can't do it."
  3. Seek great advice from great sources.  Wondering where to take your business in the new year.  Who are you going to ask - the mechanic that's fixing your car or someone that is having great success - someone that you admire and trust.
  4. The mind is a powerful tool - use it wisely.  If your dream or goal doesn't mean much to you, you will find a way to talk yourself out of taking "action" to pursue it.  You'll also surround yourself with people who will provide enough negative encouragement that will convince you to shelf your goal or dream.  Don't do it!
  5. Have good habits.   Are you holding onto old habits that no longer work for you?  Are you focused on what didn't work, what might happen and busy worrying about everyone else?  Instead, why not focus on what you CAN do, what you DO have.
  6. Leave a little room for forgiveness.  Instead of carrying around the negative emotions and disappointments that can occur in a day, that drain your energy and ability to keep moving forward - why not allow for mistakes and share the gift of forgiveness with yourself and others.  Holding onto these things you are ultimately hurting the person that you need the most to realize your dreams - YOU.
  7. Don't ever give up.  Believe in yourself.  Work on yourself and your goals - make it a part of every day.  Remember the setbacks are temporary and they are a part of getting you closer to success.  Do what you love and love what you do.

Definition of perseverance: Endurance, to persist, to continue, to stand firm, adhering to a course of action, a belief, or a purpose; steadfastness.

 Lessons we can learn from:

Ants never give up. If something falls into their path they will just alter their course and go around it or over it; but they won't stop.

Marathon runners train extensively to be able to run their race.  They endure long hours of training, possible injuries and running the race knowing there will only be one winner.

Thomas Edison - he performed over 10,000 experiments to produce the electric light bulb.  Did he go about all his experiments in the same way? No.  But was he persistent?

Will you be adding yourself to this list?

Persistence comes down to believing in your goals and not necessarily how you will go about achieving them.  Think about it, if something is not working are you going to keep doing it?  Wouldn't it be better to step back, evaluate and "take action" to try something different to get the results you are looking for?

Who do you view as a great example of perseverance?

If it's not evident to you by now, consumers are very knowledgeable and computer savvy and are using the Internet to not only search for homes but for real estate agents and real estate professionals who they feel are like minded and can lead them to the results they are looking for.

As we all know, there are only 24 hours in a day to get it all done...are you focusing on the right stuff to grow your business and meet your client's needs? Contact us today to get started!
