Sonoma County Auction SceneI never doubt activerain's power to reach people.

I got two contacts from activerain today. One may eventually lead to a transaction, but the other was simply a great opportunity for networking. A local agent I don't know found me on activerain due to a post about auctions. He needed to get more information since his actual courthouse steps auction experience was the same as most of us...zero.

I was happy to share my Sonoma County auction insight with him and give him a few tips on how to bring funds and what to watch for. Without activerain to connect us I would never have gotten to know him. My network of real estate professionals would have been smaller by one and less rich by a lot if he hadn't contacted me via activerain. If I'm smart, I'll even send him an invitation to join.

The second contact already has an agent so there's no instant result to brag about. Still, it's a contact with a potential buyer with his own circle of friends. He found me from a post on septic systems and had some important questions he needed answered about septic and well issues. In a rural area like western Sonoma County, expertise in well and septic are mandatory for agents and I have written about those issues often enough that he found me here with a Google search.

Septic Tank CoverI didn't want to step on his agent's toes, so I just sent him a reasonably detailed email with links to the information he was looking for at the Sonoma County PRMD. The guidelines and regulations are always being updated so I thought he should be looking at the source for the "real information". I wish him well with his transaction and agent, but even if I never hear from him again, I have a feeling he will tell his friends who may be interested in Sonoma County real estate that he found a very helpful agent on activerain.com.

I have other blogs, other web sites, and make use of the major services like Zillow.com, Trulia.com, RealBird.com, and Craigslist.org. If you made me shrink my internet existence down to one site, I would give almost all of that up. It would be very hard to choose between my own IDX site and blog and activerain.com. I hate to admit it to myself, but activerain.com is probably the most powerful internet tool I use.

A final note for newbie bloggers and others searching for what to write about online. These two contacts found me from completely separate posts about the random sorts of topics I write about. In this case, auctions and septic systems.

You will never know in advance what people will use to find you.

So write about everything that interests you about real estate and life. It's all good.

Joseph, nice points. Auctions are fun to go to. At the Santa Clara auction a few years ago the auctioneer called the regulars who bid and won properties 'Ali Baba and the 40 thieves'.
