Looking for the trigger

There are times in our careers when we know what gets us started on the straight and narrow path towards a goal; there are times when we are looking for the trigger to pull.  When you are looking almost anything can happen.  You can be triggered by the boss ignoring all your good efforts, so you stop making them. Does this help your cause?  You can be triggered by weather; did the rain fall just to be a problem to your today?  You can also be triggered by something you read this morning, something you learned.  This morning I read a passage that said, yesterday is gone, tomorrow is not yet here, today is all we have and that is why they call it a present.  A play on words that is somehow motivating for me this morning. It is not easy these days.  It is not clear what is coming next.  It is easy to get off your own track and take up someone else’s path.  A friend with a political rant of the day, a colleague with some disturbing new statistic for why our industry is going down the tubes are just two of these bad tracks to be avoided at all costs.  Which track do you want to take today? When today is over what do you want to say you completed.  Why not control what you can control today and set out do accomplish those tasks that will help you achieve your goals.  Why not let your own goals be your trigger.  Isn’t this why every achievement system has you post your goals in a spot where you can see them every day?  What inspires you sitting at your desk? Why not put something there that makes you smile, makes you feel successful, makes you remember all the skills you have developed.

Today I will control all that I can in my life.  I know I will spend most of my day on direct income producing activities and I will let that be my trigger, the desire to do what I can and all that I can to achieve goals I already have established but just need to put the time in today to make sure I am on target with that goal.  What are you doing?

Nice reset for a day that looks to be rainfilled here in Seattle. I'll change my plan and move forward in another direction. Thanks.

Another great post.  One of the reasons I follow your blog is because it seems to keep me focused.  Keep it up.  Oh and great image (the first one).

Hi Larry, it's very hard to control my own day in this business. I seem to be at the mercy of clients, colleagues, phone calls, emails, and normal lazy distractions. I really envy those Realtors who are at the stage in their careers where someone else is answering their phones and emails and they can truly set aside time without distractions.

Malcolm, and yet yesterday while I was walking my farm area putting my postcards on their door I was thinking, I hope I never get so busy that I deligate this activity.  I agree about some of the clerical and production elements, but I think the front line of prospecting needs to be owned by the prospector themself.  I know my experience isn't seasoned, but I think my reasoning is on this issue.
