Life, believe, is not a dream
So dark as sages say;
Oft a little morning rain
Foretells a pleasant day.

Sometimes there are clouds of gloom,
But these are transient all;
If the shower will make the roses bloom,
O why lament its fall? “Life”-Currer Bell, aka Charlotte Bronte

On April 21, 1816, Charlotte Bronte was born. She was an author and a poet who wrote many excellent works of fiction and had a knack for writing poetry, such as the poem above. Today in Payson, Arizona, the weather is a bit gloomy. It is currently overcast with dark gray storm clouds and a chilling southern wind adding a bite to the temperature of 54 degrees. Looking out from my window at the mountains of the Rim, which usually appear so serene and majestic, but today offer a more dark and formidable presence, I am reminded of the wisdom in Charlotte Bronte’s poem. Even though it may seem cold and dreary now, eventually the storm will pass, the sun will come out of hiding and caress the land with its warmth, and the foliage will be brimming with beauty for having just received the rain it needed to grow. So as you go about your day in Payson, remember to keep your head up and enjoy this weather, for even if it is not as welcome as a sunny, blue-clear-sky kind of day, it is only going to make those warmer days more appreciated, and help water the forests and provide luscious greenery and color!
