Blogger vs. Wordpress.com?

Blogger vs. Wordpress.com? Which do you prefer? I got my Mom started on her own cooking blog, and really pushed wordpress.com. I did this, so that if she wanted to ever take it to the next level, and have full control over her site, she could switch to wordpress.org. Now that she is really into it, and subscribing to lots of other blogs, she just emailed me an asked me, "why is EVERYONE else use Blogger?!" From my experience, the professional sites use wordpress.org and our friends use Blogger. Here is a site that compares the two. http://pulsed.blogspot.com/2007/07/blogger-wordpress-chart.html

Here is another site that mentions that you have to TOTALLY redo your site if you wish to change your template on Blogger. That did it for me! Just like my clothes, I want to be able change my look whenever I want. I love trying out new templates. This piece of information alone was enough to steer me away from Blogger.

I choose wordpress.com, if you want it user-friendly. Wordpress.org if you want to pay someone to customize it for you.

My question to you: Do you use Blogger, wordpress.com, wordpress.org, or some other platform?

I certainly don't find Wordpress user friendly at all. Yikes.

Wordpress is way more functional if you want to expand and grow, but it takes a bit of time setting it up and so on.  Blogger is so simple that literally anyone could set it up and blog no problem.  I'd stick with wordpress get her set up on a SEO optimized template and go from there.  I think there becomes a point where you need a professional if you really want to do something special with your page.

You mean there is somewhere else to blog other than AR??? I guess I really should look at the alternatives and spread things out a bit.

Hi Alexis  ~ wordpress.org for sure. I love my blog! Not sure I could do it all by myself from scratch if I needed to but once it was set up I was off and running.
