EARTH DAY

April 22nd

Earth Day is a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's environment. It was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson in 1970 and is now observed in 175 countries.  It is the largest secular modern day holiday in the world.

Here are some things you can do to celebrate Earth Day, and make a difference all year long.

Use re-usable bags when you are shopping.  Many folks are in the habit of grabbing their bags when they head to the grocery, but use them in other stores as well.

- Plant a tree or shrub.  This is probably the most popular way to celebrate Earth Day and one that beautifies your surroundings for years to come.

- Use a re-usable water bottle or a travel mug for your coffee.  We can all greatly reduce the amount of plastic bottles and paper cups put in our land fills, if we just got in the habit of using our own re-usable water bottle or travel cup.

The three R's...  Recycle, Re-use and Re-purpose.  If we all try to do one of these three actions with everything we touch, we will all reduce waste considerably.
