Who Let the Dog Out!

By

I was showing houses today to a buyer I have been working with for some time. We got to a house with showing instructions that read "Two friendly dogs inside, go show". We approached the door and heard the dogs barking. The buyer asked if it was really ok to go inside, I said yeah I am sure its ok. I told him I would go in first, once they were ok with me I would open the door so he could come inside. I went inside they sniffed me for a minute and everything was ok-- so far. I opened the door to let him in and one of the dogs ran outside. I freaked out! I was trying to get the dog but the dog ran because he didnt know me. I could tell the dog wanted back in but wouldnt come back because I was in the way, and my buyer was by the front door. I didnt know what to do. Finally the neighbor came over, he called for the dog and she came running back. Went right to the front door and back inside. I was relieved. I quickly thanked the neighbor and showed the house. I will be more careful next time opening doors with pets on the other side. After it was over, we got a good laugh out of it. I think my buyer liked seeing me freak out.

Thanks Aaron

Having pets in the house for showings is never a good idea.  These sellers should make other arrangements for their pets, not expect agents to work around them.  Imagine if the dog had been hit by a car!  I always advice sellers to remove all evidence of pets, nevermind the actual pet itself.

Aaron, that's funny. Bet your buyers did get a kick out of that. Trust me, been there done that and it's scary as heck, that feeling of panick especially when you know how the owners feel about their pets. We have chased a few dogs down the street, set off alarms, lock keys not only in cars but the house as well, had to get extra keys from office lol REAL ESTATE... AIN'T IT GREAT SOME DAYS!

Pet owners need to realize that their pets will react differently around strangers.  They should care more about their pets and not leave them alone when strangers show up.  The pets do not understand the home is for rent!
