Contact Jim Frimmer for all your San Diego real estate needs!California, although about $20 billion in debt, still has access to Federal stimulus funds, and to prove it, the State is making available a little over $35 million in celebration of Earth Day.

So what do you have to do to get your share? Just replace your most energy-wasting appliances with new environmentally friendly appliances. Think Green!

Energy efficient washer and dryerIn addition to the Federal stimulus funds, local utilities and retailers are contributing their fair share via rebates and othe rincentives. You can save hundreds of dollars on some products, and the initial purchase cost will pay for the rest of the appliance through increased energy savings on your utility bills.

Florida and Texas went through their Federal stimulus dollars in mere hours. California says that its program will be more orderly, taking days to deplete the funds rather than hours. Not really sure how that makes it more orderly, but whatever.

Following are some of the incentives available:

  • Energy efficient refrigeratorRefrigerators — $200 Federal rebate through the California Energy commission and $50 recycling rebate from San Diego Gas & Electric.
  • Washing machine — $100 Federal rebate and $150 from the San Diego Water Authority.
  • Room air conditioners — $50 Federal rebate and $25 recycling rebate.

Of course, nothing involving the Goverment is easy, so you'll have to prove that you bought an energy efficient appliance (usually Energy Star Tier 2 and 3) and disposed of your old appliance properly. Fortunately, most retailers will be providing a packet for you to use that has the proper forms in it.

Hi Jim - Very well-written explanation of the program.  Anyone considering this had better get busy.  There is a limited fund for this in California and once it is gone, no further rebate requests will be honored.

I'm trying to catch up on all my blog posts since I've been neglecting the, for good cause, though, since I've been busy.

Since this post is quite old, I won't respond to each and every comment. Rather, I'll read through all the comments and respond to any that have questions or otherwise need a response.

I'll also be by your blog soon to return the favor by reading your posts and leaving comments, too. Do unto others as they have already done unto you. lol

Again, thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment. Make it a great day, a great week, a great month, and finish out 2010 on a natural high!
