Today is the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day and a great time to reflect on what each of us can do to show Mother Earth a little love Heart Stamp , not just today but every day.

I became much more environmentally conscious while living in Santa Barbara, Ca.  Having grown up in Ohio and living most of my life in the eastern portion of the country, I was aware of the environmental movement, but really hadn't done much until moving to the left coast.  In California, embracing an environmentally friendly attitude is as common as inhaling the wonderful ocean breezes.

One of the easiest "earth friendly habits' that I practice is, using recyclable shopping bags.  Retailers have made it so easy with colorful bags available for purchase at their stores.  I have a variety of bags, folding and tucking them all into the largest bag and storing them in my car.  They are handy to pick out individually or take the entire collection along when I do my "big grocery shopping trip."  They are much easier to carry, fitting twice the number of groceries in one recyclable, rather than the flimsy plastic excuses that are available.  The  plastic bags are horrible when they get out into nature; filling not only landfills, but also getting stuck in places they shouldn't be, affecting wildlife and hanging around forever!

Some people say, "I never remember to take them with me!"  It does take a little effort getting used to using them; however, it is like any other habit we embrace, keep trying and soon you do it without even thinking AND you get a lot of satisfaction by contributing in a positive way!
