Over the past several years, I have found that volunteering for local organizations & groups have been a wonderful outlet to meet new clients as well being very rewarding. A few years back I coached an 8 year old & under soccer team. The work was fun, but what I realized is that many young couples and families were looking to buy their first home. The built in trust factor was an excellent way to open up doors (literally) to selling homes.
As it stands, I currently am a Diplomat to the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, where I am on the Membmership Committee. This too is a rewarding position along with the ample functions & networking events held on a weekly basis. I hope to join the Economic Development Committee soon to help provide professional insights from the real estate industry and have the oportunity to converse with local & regional politicians. Combining the ability to meet potential clients from the general public and creating exchanges with political & civic leaders is tremendous!
Another fantastic resource is with your local Board of Realtors. Whether its in a Board position, social events, or an array of other roles, your involvement will certainly produce a professional perception to peers and clients. Charity organizations are also looking for individuals to donate time and skills such as: Habitat for Humanity, local hospitals, schools, and churches.
Dont spread yourself out too thin where your occupation suffers nor the groups you serve, but more importantly dont be afraid to promote your services & good deeds in a positive light. Try not to sound conceited, arrogant, or a braggart, but don't dont diminish your contributions when the topic arises. Be proud, be active, and become involved with a group that best suites your skills & personality. The rewards will be many not just financially, but emotionally...and the world needs a whole lot more of that!
