HIGHEST INCOME PER CAPITA IN FLORIDA? JACKSONVILLE!

Jacksonville Florida has the highest income per capita of any city in Florida. This surprising news speaks to the diversity and stability of our economy. We outrank Orlando, Tampa and Miami in income per capita.

HOUSING MARKET

Jacksonville's home market rose, but it did not sky rocket like other Florida cities its size. We lived in Orlando during part of the boom and still did business down there for several years, and Jacksonville was much more stable. Not as exciting, but much more stable. For that reason, Jacksonville home values have not declined as much as other Florida cities. While our values are down 20-30% from the peak, depending where you are, values are down as much as 70% in some Florida former 'boom' towns.

DIVERSE ECONOMY

Jacksonville has a diverse economy. The Military comprises 10% of our employment. There is a large healthcare sector, a growing technology sector, and two major shipping lines have signed on to our port in the last two years. We also have a healthy finance and insurance part of our economy. Fidelity moved its operations here a number of years ago and Blue Cross/Blue Shield has been huge in Jacksonville for a long time. Education plays into this with Jacksonville University, University of North Florida, Florida State College (formerly FCCJ ~ Florida Community College at Jacksonville) and a host of other schools in the area.

At 1,300,000 people and one of the largest land area cities in the world, Jacksonville has much to offer businesses relocating to our area or expanding. With shipping, air and rail available, Jacksonville can meet the needs of any type of business. Logistics and warehousing are growing businesses here, especially in the northern part of town near the airport and port.

Our healthcare facilities are impressive. The Mayo Clinic Florida is located near the beach, along with Baptist Health, St. Vincent's HealthCare, St. Luke's and several other hospitals. Shands Jacksonville is affiliated with the University of Florida, and Nemours Foundation is located at Baptist downtown. There are hundreds of millions of dollars of research money divided up between all these healthcare facilities.

PROJECTED JOB GROWTH

Economists also predict that Jacksonville will be a hub of job growth in the years to come. If you are considering relocating to Florida, you definitely want to consider Jacksonville. With an ideal climate - just enough cool, fall weather to take a break from the warmer months and really enjoy our football season, we think we have the best of both in the Florida sun!

Gary, Jacksonville is a great place to live!

Bill, it surprised me as well.

Joe, this is not where the data came from. This is referencing counties and small cities. The article was talking about the big cities in Florida. I was surprised as well. Can't believe that there isn't a link to the article, but I will dig to find it.

If you look at these stats, which are counties representing the largest cities, Duval (jacksonville) ranks higher than the counties for the other major cities - Hillsborough for Tampa, Orange for Orlando and Miami-Dade for Miami.

Not sure where the wiki is pulling their data, but the $$ amounts look low to me from what I see on other sites such as this one.
