Cash for Clunkers - Appliances Version

By
Real Estate Agent with RSVP Real Estate

According to an article on CNBC the US Department of Energy has approved a $300 million program to encourage US Consumers to replace older appliances with new more energy efficient ones. It is similar to the Auto Industries Cash for Clunkers Program from Summer 2009.

There is ONE LARGE DIFFERENCE, DofE has given each state the responsibility of setting up, regulating and administration of the program. So, that means that there are 50 different Cash for Clunkers (Appliances) programs out there. And most are still not totally set up and running yet.

Washington State's C4C will begin in February 2010 (estimated). While all of the SayWA details have not been worked out yet, there is a web site that you can check to find out the latest information. Check out the Appliance Rebate site.

So far sayWA has announced that the program will look like this:

Total Amount of Rebates: $6,283,775

Rebate Range: $50 - $250

Program Date: February 2010 to TBD

Refrigerator: $75

Dishwasher: TBD

Clothes Washer: $100

Clothes Dryer: TBD

Air Conditioner: TBD

As of now it hasn't been determined if the rebate will be an instant rebate at the time of purchase or a mail in rebate.

You can also on this site check to see if there are Manufacturer Rebates, Retailer Rebates, Utility Rebates and Price Compare.

I really do not understand the concept of cash for appliances.  Especially with a government that is broke.

Yes, cash for clunkers is the new hot spot. We may be seeing cash for mattresses, furniture and toasters next!
