Relocating home buyers nearly always ask for my recommendation on places to stay during their house-hunting trip to Maryland. That’s a tricky question to answer, since not all people like the same thing.
If you want to focus on house-hunting in Bowie, Crofton, Odenton and the surrounding area, Bowie is your best bet for accommodations. In addition to the Comfort Inn Conference Center at the intersection of Route 3 and 50, there’s also a Hampton Inn (across from Bowie New Town Centre near the Bowie Regal Movie Theater), and Towneplace Suites by Marriott (located to the back of Bowie New Town Centre). These facilities are located about 5 minutes from my office, so not a minute will be wasted on the road in getting down to business!
DOD lodging for military families
Check out the Navy Gateway Inn at the USNA (photo - left), the Navy Lodge at Naval Station Annapolis, the Air Force Inn at Andrews AFB, or Abrams Hall at Fort Meade. These facilities often seem to be booked well in advance, but it’s worth checking with them for cancellations. All of them are within a half hour of my office in Crofton MD, but there are many other DOD temporary lodging options in the greater DC-Baltimore area.
Combine house-hunting with a get-away
If you’re hoping to find a home AND experience the ambiance of Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay area, I’d choose Annapolis over D.C. or Baltimore because it’s closer to Crofton – less than a half hour. There is seemingly no end to the list of accommodations and restaurants in our state capitol, from Bed & Breakfast options to the Historic Inns of Annapolis and a whole menu of franchise hotels. (There will be plenty of opportunities to explore D.C. and Baltimore after you move here.)
I haven’t seen any comprehensive list online of all these options, but don’t worry… when we schedule your house-hunting trip, I’ll give you some specific suggestions that match your criteria.
