I have read a few blogs in the past about real estate signs. And know from the maelstrom of comments that the last thing I want to do is post a picture of a damaged or embarrassing looking real estate sign (people can get so touchy!). But lord knows I could, because there are so many out there.
Your sign is an extension of you - and one of the most visible examples of your marketing. Why would you want to leave a damaged, defaced or decrepit sign out in public view? It reflects poorly on the property it sits in front of, and it reflects poorly on you.
I see dented metal signs. Post-hung signs that dangle in the breeze from only one S-hook. Signed buried in weeds. The list goes on and on . . . And remember, folks. Your damaged sign reflects poorly not only on you, but also your office, and on all agents who share your franchise marks.
So I'm going to use a local business as my example today:
What does this sign tell you? That it's a store that specializes in firehouse dogs ("The Spots Authority: Your resource when you have 101 Dalmatians")? That it's you go-to retailer when you need expert advice on the measles? Or that the store may not be any more inviting than the sign advertising it . . .
My point: Damaged real estate sign = perceptions of damaged house. Or damaged agent.
Maybe it's a case of an agent who doesn't periodically drive by his or her listings (and some of these damaged signs are up for weeks or months in that condition!). Maybe the agent doesn't understand the power of the sign. Perhaps they are of the mindset, "This was an expensive sign, and I'm going to use it until it rusts back to mother earth."
Now that spring has sprung - visit your signs and replace the damaged ones! Your sellers will thank you, and so will your business.
