I just finished watching the Hallmark Hall of Fame Presentation "When Love Is Not Enough"
It was the touching story of Bill and Lois Wilson following their lives and Bill's struggle with alcoholism and his financial ruin.
After Bill's recovery, Lois and Bill went on the road across the country helping others and forming support groups, as passionate volunteers! Lois's Father comes to visit her and tells her that the bank told him she and Bill have not been making the mortgage payments. Eventually, Lois loses the family home. Lois and Bill then spend two years in 51 different places sleeping on couches, floors and in others homes.
The heartwarming part of the story is when a woman seeks out Lois to tell her how much she has helped a friend of hers through the support group and what a difference it made in her friend's life. The woman was so grateful, she gave Lois and Bill a home she owned in Bedford Hills, NY! "Lo" tells Bill as they are getting ready to board another train....she has longed for a home... she doesn't want to continue to go on the road with him any longer, she wants to go make a home in Bedford Falls.
Fast forward to 1951 Lois is still meeting with wives groups in her Bedford Hills, sharing her message of hope and they hold hands and pray the Serenity Prayer you have probably all heard before....
Lois founded Al-Anon around her kitchen table and this was her story.
As Realtors we help people find homes. For some it will be the home of their dreams, maybe its a First Time Homebuyer. Its always rewarding to be part of that happiness.
For some perhaps they have lost their home and it becomes emotional as we then manage a short-sale when we take on the listing. No matter what the circumstance, everyone longs for a home--just as Lois longed for a home again, after losing one.
I still believe home ownership is the American Dream!
