Sometimes, for me it has been today, we lose focus.  I will admit that often the loss of focus comes from good intentions.  Often it comes from trying to help too many people or do too much.  Once in awhile it comes from impatience or anger, but it does happen.

I don't know about others, but there have been times in my life, sometimes times during a given afternoon that I can't see the tree for the forest.  Seeing the forest isn't always a bad thing, but when you need to concentrate on a given tree, it becomes a problem.  As Realtors we often burn our candles at both ends, but the reality is that we often need to step back and see what is really going on.

An example of this is that we get so busy that we forget to take care of our health, our training, or even our business.  We often forget the Benjamin Franklin saying that "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush."  We want all three birds, that is human nature.

We also forget that our future busines depends not on the business that we are doing today, rather the prospecting that we are doing today.  When we forget to focus on prospecting, it is easy not to do it when we are busy and are having sucess right now.  I know that life sometimes is a balancing act, and the trick is knowing what to balance and what to cast away. It isn't always easy, but in the long run it is worth it!

This is a very difficult business to maintain focus in. There's always a dozen things we could be doing at the same time.

Visual focus is a great metaphor for our business. Sometimes we look without really seeing what is right in front of us. And often it only takes a tilt of the head or a step to the side to see something that is really amazing. Keep looking forward and the sharpness will return.

I've always found that planning for the long term, breaking that long term down into its short-term components, and then working the short-term components persistently and consistently naturally leads to both short-term and long-term success without losing focus on either one.

With such a complex world and the constant bombardment of information coming at us from so many directions, it's easy to understand why it is so easy to lose focus. We all need to find balance and recognize that things do change and we have to change with them. That may appear at first to be out of focus but that is not always the case.

Malcolm, this is true and often they are good things that we are doing to lose focus.

John, Well said!

Russel, sage advice my friend!  Very wise indeed!

Diane, very true, losing focus can be catostrophic in both life and business!

John, that is so true!  Thanks for commenting!

I totally lost focus today.  My phone went dead and I had to spend 2.5 hours at the Sprint store.  Why does it take so long to get a new phone?  Now I have to learn how to use it!

Good morning John,

Love the picture with your message. It is easy to loose focus thus losing control! In our business with so many "must do" that crop up we can easily be forced to get off track!

You've been in our office recently haven't you? Your post were words right out of our mouths last week. It has been a chaotic month and we hate to admit, we lost focus!

Melinda, great question!  I don't know why it takes so long to get a new phone and with all the new apps and gadgets, I feel that about the time that I figure out the phone it is time to get another phone!

Dorie, I know, that was my purpose in writing this blog was to do a little venting, it just seems that each thing that comes up is really important.  I guess that is what comes from working in an industry where time is always of the essence!

Al & Peggy, so did we!  We understand!

Hi Tony...It's easy to lose focus and become easily distracted.  I have to catch myself sometimes even on the Rain.  I say I'm only going to read a couple more posts and before I know it, it's an hour or so later.
