Lately I have felt as if God was setting up road blocks in my career telling me that He has other plans for me. You see, I think I started in this business at exactly the wrong moment, just over two years ago when the market started to turn sour. Almost every transaction that I have been a part of has been a monumental nightmare, everything that could go wrong has. I work too much and rarely get to spend quality time with my wife. On Saturday I had a long sit-down with my wife to discuss whether or not it was time to throw in the towel. We decided against it, she believes in me whole-heartedly and is very supportive.
The next day it was just another Sunday, we headed off to church before I held an open house. To my surprise there was a guest pastor, our regular pastor was out on a mission. The pastor starts right away talking about quitting and the importance to persevere through God's trials. Now, I'm sort of a manly man, but my eyes began to well up. I felt as if God was speaking directly to me. It was as if He had been eavesdropping on my conversation the day before.
The message went on to talk about making a difference in people's lives. The pastor shared a phrase he uses to motivate others to Make A Difference, go MAD. It was about this time that I figured it out; lately I have lost touch with what is truly important. I've been working so hard trying to get business I forgot to put God first. I forgot how imperative it is for us, as Realtors®, to put people first. When you try to make a difference in people's lives, and show them that you genuinely care about them, obtaining business is the easy part.
I now have my priorities lined up correctly. I have already been blessed with two great opportunities this week. If anyone has been having thoughts of defeat lately and would like the audio link to the actual church message I wrote about, feel free to contact me.
Go MAD friends.
