Lately I have felt as if God was setting up road blocks in my career telling me that He has other plans for me.  You see, I think I started in this business at exactly the wrong moment, just over two years ago when the market started to turn sour.  Almost every transaction that I have been a part of has been a monumental nightmare, everything that could go wrong has.  I work too much and rarely get to spend quality time with my wife.  On Saturday I had a long sit-down with my wife to discuss whether or not it was time to throw in the towel.  We decided against it, she believes in me whole-heartedly and is very supportive.

The next day it was just another Sunday, we headed off to church before I held an open house.  To my surprise there was a guest pastor, our regular pastor was out on a mission.  The pastor starts right away talking about quitting and the importance to persevere through God's trials.  Now, I'm sort of a manly man, but my eyes began to well up.  I felt as if God was speaking directly to me.  It was as if He had been eavesdropping on my conversation the day before.

The message went on to talk about making a difference in people's lives.  The pastor shared a phrase he uses to motivate others to Make A Difference, go MAD.  It was about this time that I figured it out; lately I have lost touch with what is truly important.  I've been working so hard trying to get business I forgot to put God first.  I forgot how imperative it is for us, as Realtors®, to put people first.  When you try to make a difference in people's lives, and show them that you genuinely care about them, obtaining business is the easy part.

I now have my priorities lined up correctly.  I have already been blessed with two great opportunities this week.  If anyone has been having thoughts of defeat lately and would like the audio link to the actual church message I wrote about, feel free to contact me.

Go MAD friends.

I am right there with you Steve.  Lately I have begun to question whether or not this was the career for me.  I started two years ago and have had only minimal success.  I have not sold anything since November.  It's funny, I had begun thinking " Is this God trying to tell me to choose another path, that its not meant to be?"  But deep in my heart I believe that God helps those who help themselves (and others) and after a long discussion with my husband we decided to keep pegging away.  Just this week three new opportunities popped up and I firmly believe that this is my answer: Keep Trying!!

Steve: Very nice from the heart post. I think your timing was perfect. Had you entered the business when it was booming, you would not have had the time to properly learn the fundamentals and it would have cost you greatly. Jesus' time is always the perfect time. Hang in there. Thanks.

Megan - I'm glad you didn't give up!  It seems like our situations are very similar, keep pegging away.

Fran - That's a great perspective and you are right on.  Thanks for the encouragement.

Steve:

You are not alone.  I returned to this business two years ago, after several years absence.  Yes, it's been a rough two years for both newbies and experienced agents.  God is good - as you appear to know.  I was sort of complaining to him recently and when I finished my 'quiet time', the phone rang.  It was a fellow wanting to buy the lot next to the one his buddy had just bought!  We close next Monday.

Now if that ain't GOD!!!!  I give HIM the glory.

Welcome to ActiveRain and congratulations on your first few blogs.   I know the market has been "tough", but every market has its challenges - if not, we wouldn't have a job, right?  When sellers were rejoicing overnight sales at over-list-prices, buyers were making 5, 10, 15 home-buying decisions, only to be overbid.  So buckle your seatbelt, it's a great ride - with a different view every week.

Thank you for commenting on one of my posts today!  I hope you join some of the more active groups I can find your posts again.

I was in the exact same place you are now after my first year and my wife said those same words to me. Trust me in this your wife is smarter than you are and take her advice and stay, if you have someone who believes in you can do anything and it sounds like you have two people in your life. Your wife and God! 3 Years later, I am so glad I listened to my smarter half!
