Most people even in Texas have never heard of Willow City and that is because it is so small and off of the beaten path that not many travelers take the small country road that leads to the little community. However at this time of the year when the wildflowers are in full bloom the small two lane road is very busy with vehicles of every type doing the twenty odd miles to view and photograph Texas wildflowers along the roadway.

Willow City with it's one small store is located north of Fredericksburg approximately sixteen miles on state highway 16 and then east on highway 1323 three miles to the Willow City Loop.  The Willow City Loop is thirteen miles of some of the best wildflower viewing in this part of Texas.  The Loop returns to state highway 16 twenty miles south of Llano Texas.  If you want to view some un touched ranch land covered with miles of wildflowers now is the time to take a day trip to Willow City.

Posted here are a few of the pictures that were taken on April 25th some made just out of the pickup window.  I hope that you enjoy and all pictures can be copied or used by anyone on Active Rain by just giving credit to Don Eichler.

Great pictures, Don. I do miss being able to wander the farm to market roads in Texas to find fields and fields of flowers in the spring.

Russell, Thanks for the comments, the country life is hard to beat and the beauty of nature can't be beat.

Diane,  The Willow City Loop is very popular with visitors to this area.  When you see mile of wildflowers or all types and colors it will capture your attention.

Carol,  The wildflowers just keep getting better each day.  If they don't live here I am sure that you can help them out, right!

Debra, The wildflower landscape here is ever changing with continued blooms all the way through summer into fall.  The little Wine Cups are a favorite of mine.

Don, these are amazing!  I remember from living in Texas for a few years seeing all the wildflowers and blue bells along the roadways.  Thanks for the memories!

Silvia, Thanks for the comments and for anyone that has experienced the wildflowers of Texas they always remember them.  Some even drive many miles to travel the back roads for the wonderful views.
