Prospecting BirdThis is a story of a beautiful little bird out cruising the blue skies on a beautiful Summer evening in Las Vegas.

To set the stage, I should tell you that I leave my doors open AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.

So here is this sweet little bird out for a little prospecting.  He happens to fly into my house as I'm pouring coffee... Seriously, about 20 minutes ago (7 pm PST 8-1-07).

First he gets stuck behind my couch so I closed all the bedroom/bathroom doors & opened all of my house doors and windows to help the little dude escape.

After about 10 minutes, I help him fly out my living room window.  He seems to be in shock a little bit, so I Bird Prospectinggrabbed my camera to take his picture (to show my husband... and of course all of you guys)!

Unfortunately I scared him & he flew into the french door to my master bedroom & collapses on the ground.  In 3 seconds FLAT, he's in the mouth of this guy! - - - - - - - - >

This is Chance, our rescue dog.  He thought he died and went to Doggy Heaven!!

I assure you, he dropped that bird on my command!

So I pick up the bird to make sure he's OK (well as Ok as a bird can be after his "near death" experience).

He sat in my hand for about 15 seconds and flew up into the tree.

Right now he's still in the tree... Chance is still positioned in the backyard waiting for him to miraculously fall to the ground again.

Bird Prospecting

This is the "other" obstacle for this cute little bird.  Doesn't he look guity??  This is Smokey!  He was an innocent bystander... Only because Chance was SUPERMAN like FAST!

The tree behind him is where the bird is currently taking refuge.

So, the next time you're having a bad day prospecting... remember, it could be worse.

You could be this sweet little bird taking flight in the beautiful Las Vegas skies only to fly into the home of these two guys & the mouth of a rescue dog named Chance!

Love your story!

I have gone through life barely every noticing birds.  Then I joined my local garden club, where I had to sit through a bird update every month, while wiggling in my seat.  But I've found myself watching birds out my window this summer, wondering what each kind was, as it landed on my birdbath and fountain.  I can't wait to tell the "bird lady" at garden club that she made a difference in my life.  Not that this has anything to do with your posts, but it did make me think about birds.

That was a neat story...nice to be able to capture all that. I have a cocker spaniel and birds always come on our patio....she want to charge through the screen door.

Had a few chuckles with your charming analogy. I have a 150lb rotty who greets us like George Jetson's...

Diane:  I think the bigger the dog, the more enthusiastic they are about getting in your lap or FACE for that matter.  :)

Sue - this is a great story!  And a terrific analogy!

The dogs are beautiful - and just by breed (or dominant breed) neither one of them would actually bite down on that bird (IMO).  They are soft mouthed and it's natural for them to tenderly carry their catch.

And BTW - thank you for opening your heart to rescue dogs.  There are so many of them and so few homes...

Carol:  I wasn't sure how he would react to having that bird in his mouth, but was thrilled with his release upon command.  They are both FABULOUS dogs!!

I am amazed every day that someone was able to give this boy up!  He's an AWESOME dog & has given us more than we have given him by far!

Great story Sue.  I'm an animal lover and reading this I was routing the poor little guy on the whole time.  I've felt like that little guy, in the mouth of the bold one, ready to eat me up.  But like the bird, I spread my wings and made sure nobody was in my way because I was determined to achieve my goals.
