Plug It In, Plug It In!

Car Charger Top

Whoopee!! I found a new gadget! Well actually my daughter Erica www.ericarome.com  found this wonderful new toy for me. With one plug in the car cigarette lighter, I can charge up to four devices at the same time including my tablet PC and my Treo 700p.

So what's the big deal? The big deal is that I can recharge things that have a regular two or three prong plug. And it swivels so it is not in the way of something really important like the cup holder. Take a look at the photos.

Now I can stay connected and charged anywhere by using this cool tool. It's especially useful if you are out all day or traveling. It is called a 4 Port Power Inverter made by Digital Concepts. Today was my first time using it. The only difficult part was opening the package - had to go back home to get scissors. Other than that Plug It In, Plug It In.

How many devices could you use this for in your car?

I need one of those.  Always needing to charge the GPS and my cell phone at the same time.  Where did you get it? Cost?

I saw something similar yesterday at WalMart. I started to buy it. I need one for my PDA, laptop, cell phone, and halogen lamp. Thanks for the review. I'll take a look at it.

Nice, manufactures really need to add more outlets to our vehicles. Do they not realize that we use our vehicles as our office. Thanks for the information.

Margaret,

Thanks for the post. We do love our toys. I think Realtors are magnets for new gadgets.

Margaret - With more and moe equipment in the car needing power, this gadget will certainly simplify things.  Thanks for sharing.

I have a power inverter, but I've never seen one with the USB ports. Looks like I'm obsolete again.

I got one of those...

I plugged it in and heard a fizzle.. and then all of a sudden I smelled this awful burning smell... it was on fire!

Sorry to the local authorities but I had to throw it out the window!!

So, Where did you get this beauty. I haven't seen one in my neck of the woods, is it something you can get online?

I'm also curious where you found this.  Also not surprised that David's fried ... especially if he used the 110 volt socket.

great gadget where did you get it from?? What is the cost?  Does it come with "side effects" of running down your car battery or shorting out anything???

Sound like it would be great and useful to have.

Sybil, I will have to check with my daughter for you. Maybe she will read this post and answer.

Leon, Let me know if you like it. It was a lifesaver yesterday, my cell phone was running really low and I was able to get it charged enough to get a negotiation going.

Susan, Yes, cars need to come with power strips for all of us!

William, You are so right, we are magnets for new gadgets. How many gadgets do you have that you do not use?

Jeff,  Yep 2 usb ports..Thank you, Erica!

Jennifer, I am all for simple stuff.

Lola, Let me know what you think after you check it out.

Dan, No I do NOT drive and blog but I might have to get a chaufeur.

Terry, This pretty cool! Obsolete seems to happen sooner with all our gadgets.

David, Yikes! Fire in the car is not a good thing. This one has a fan that runs while it is charging. Yours must have been defective...so sorry.

Sally, Yes mine is cooler than David's.

Pam, Pretty sure my daughter got it on line.

Larry, Mine is ok so far but I will keep an eye on it.

Rosemary, Will get more information from my daughter. Don't know of any side effects yet...still new.

From Margaret's daughter:

You're welcome!

I found it in the Herrington Catalog  ( www.herringtoncatalog.com ) which calls itself "the enthusiasts' catalog."  Every so often they come up with something that I (everybody, really!) must have.  This was the latest.  Granted, not everything in there is a hit (I've returned a few things as well) but when it's good, it's awesome.

When you all order at the same time, tell Lee Herrington to send me some freebies.  ;)

The only side effect I've noticed is the whirring noise it makes, but after a few minutes you don't even hear it.

P.S. Mama, what happened to the fruit names? chitra isn't even in my dictionary...

ROSEMARY: maybe somebody ought to plug a plug strip and 8 other gadgets into the thing and see how long before the car stops running...

P.P.S. Mama...thanks for the...plug...har har

Thank you,my favorite daughter Erica,  for sharing the information with everyone here on Active Rain. And thank you for the wonderful "plug".

As far as the Fruit names.. They had to put in new spam prevention mechanisms to try and stop or slow down the attack on the site. SURPRISE!! - What Happen To The Fruit in the Rain?

A neato power inverter that charges things up hmm?

And it looked like it had a 3 pronged outlet too!!

Fascinating, Mr. Spock!!

=-)

(I might just get one of those...I bookmarked this for the future.)

Alexander, The three prong is what I really like. My daughter says she have found one just with that feature. Will let you know.

E-mail me about it, Margaret...... I have found power converters at Walmart that had 2 of those plugs.... but THAT one looks like it had plugs for specialized chargers, hmm?

During the hurricanes several years ago in central FL. that knocked out power for us for 14 days...I ran my aquarium off a power inverter from my car...my fish lived through it with us!!

=-)

Great use of the power inverter. Think the one found was at Walmart, but will let you know.

08/04/2007 08:20 PM by Margaret Rome- Baltimore, Md.-HomeRome.com (TREC-Sell Your Home With Margaret Rome)

Yes--I found it at Walmart yesterday accidentally.  It's in the electronics section.  (It doesn't seem to be on their online store though.)  Same brand as the other one, just smaller and no USB or lighter inputs.  Chances are I will only ever use the "regular" outlet, too bad I didn't see this one first.

The same company (Digital Concepts) makes other similar things, like this  http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5640639

Mama--I can't view the fruit/rain article, it's for members only.

Rebecca, I discovered the great "inverter" years ago when I was taking my family on a long "road trip" and we needed something to plug the laptop in to show DVDs to the kids (before cars had video screens...). They are definitely a "must have" item.

Andy...

Is the price above or below that of the Walmart price?????

Did ya look into that?

I know when we buy one it is tax deductable as an office expense, BUT makin sure the price is right is a good thing also....hehehehe!

Expenditures have to be under control....

David, This wonderful gadget started smoking and sizzling when we were in our plane. That is not a good smell while in the air!!

Had to trash it. Guess it was not the greatest gadget in the world!
