Even though my children are grown and on their own, I have grandchildren in elementary school and we are very fortunate to live in a community that boasts a great school system. Parents and all members of the community are encouraged to play an active role in the county schools and it has paid off in great performance results by the children.
A good school system is "KEY" when and where people decide to purchase a home (especially if they have school age children). And . . . a good school system is "KEY" to the success of our society. It is up to all of us to play a part in nurturing this very important component of our community.
In my opinion, teachers are one of the most underappreciated, yet most influential professions. (In full disclosure, my husband taught high school and college courses for 10 years of his professional life before going into industry and my daughter-in-law is currently an elementary teacher.) I know how many long hours above and beyond the regular school day a good teacher commits to working. I know how many weekends they give to their schools to chaperone, or participate in extra curricular events. I know how much of their own money they spend to provide the necessary tools to prepare their lessons. I know how much concern and sleepless nights they experience with relation to their students; it is like being a parent to 25 children each day instead of 2 or 3.
This week is Teacher Appreciation Week and tomorrow (5/4) is Teacher Appreciation Day. Did you have a teacher that played a significant role in your life? Take a few minutes out of your busy week to let a teacher in your community know how much you appreciate the job they do!
