6 Comments on WHAT IS HONESTY?
I like your overall point and the way you ended it.
Some people can't handle the truth. I'm told by many people that I'm too honest. As I get older, I think that I'm realizing that honesty is only meant for the objective.
Many people would rather live by their deluded view; they're much happier this way. I can't relate, but my logic makes me wonder if they're really wrong.
Chris....Too honest? Bring it on.......
Logic does not stand up to common sense......why should the truth back-off in any situation....it is for mans selfish reasons that we allow it. We cant stand the truth becasue we are so full of error and the truth shines a light on it..... you can never escape the process, only buy a little time.....which eventually runs out too.........What then? Choose the way you want to go and suffer for it. It the end, if you suffer for the right reasons, you get something for it........
I prefer the honesty, Richie. In fact, I'm a little (OK, very) insulted if I catch someone "going easy" on me.
However, I'm slowly realizing that not everyone fits this bill. I'm trying to learn to feel out people. I don't really care to lie, unless it protects someone against suffering a consequence much greater than the action justifies. For instance, if a boss will fire someone over a trivial mistake that is accidental, one-time, and recoverable, I will lie to this boss about this other person's mistake.
Also, not everyone is interested to improve his or her character. Just because I see this as a virtue does not mean that you do. If you are one of these people who do NOT have this goal for yourself, what am I accomplishing--besides animosity--by flinging a fault in this person's direction? For me to push my goal onto someone else is selfish in the name of trying to improve that person or being honest.
I tend to admit my own faults...a little too quickly. That hurts me in many situations, but I think that it helps me more than it hurts me. Most of all, I'm proud of who I am, even if I'm not proud of all of my ability levels. I think you and I agree on this point.
I like your wording, "Choose the way you want to go and suffer for it. In the end, if you suffer for the right reasons, you get something for it." I don't think that enough people understand or believe this point.
Chris....
I respect (& enjoy) your statements....they indicate an awareness of the subject matter and a willingness to know more. That is an attractive place to be in. The truth is a very subjective and a personal item....when viewed from the human being's perspective. But I do not think it was always so. Truth in and of itself sustains itself and if you let it absorb you and let go of your interpretation, you will see just how perfect it is. Start-up is a nuisance though because wanting the truth requires effort and a love of it to interact with it. We do not have it to give, but we want it. It has the qualities of being a gift given to those by a a gift giver. How interesting. We like it when we see it and get it... and we miss it when we don't. It is here to stay and coveted by anyone wanting a more meaningful journey. It addresses every need. Trying to ignore it requires lots of maintenance which testifies to the value of it. One way or the other...it is here. However, for it to work uniformly, everyone must agree to it. You have described the degree of which you believe. You have even described others not wanting to know. There is your scale. It works in accordance to letting it work and it is a wise thing to let it play out even unto the losing of your life...as others have discovered. History will show you that those are the stakes on this subject matter for those that want it entirely. That is how serious it is. It requires total commitment in exchange for .....? PONDER THAT. Every human is in a different place knowing different things at different times. All of us have gone astray.....this statement implies that we all had a common ground at some point. The same origin if you will. So, while we all started out the same, we all fell in different directions and established our own little rules to survive by. Looks like we substituted personal truths for the eternal at some point. To that, there is no end. I believe that life goes in cycles as demonstrated by nature and even us. Things have a beginning and an ending for now. What we fell from is.... what we must return to.... like it or not. Seeking the time tested, proven road to travel by (truth), makes for a better more satisfying journey. The only common grounds human can interact by that I can think of are 1). common sense and 2). truth. Hard to argue or ignore either one. They are here to stay and they either guide you or..... accuse you as you go. Adopting and gravitating toward these will only enhance and make the journey worthwhile and take us home so to speak......I believe in the mystical/spiritual aspects of our existence. We are more than just a simple life form....There is way more to life than eating, drinking and trying to survive. The pursuit of truth brings clarity to that journey and reveals purpose to the seeker. To each his own is how it is set-up............for now. Thank you for your dialog and sharing your thoughts.......
Hi, Richie.
I feel honored that I wrote something that inspired someone as deep thinking and kind as you.
Likely, you made some points that my intellect hasn't allowed me to absorb as well as the message you were trying to impart deserves.
However, one pearl I did observe and fully appreciate, "So, while we all started out the same, we all fell in different directions and established our own little rules to survive by."
That is extremely well put, and it seems to perfectly describe love, peace, and war. A little less dramatic explanation of that statement would be that it explains why there are so many perspectives and why nobody can fully understand everyone else, even the wisest man or woman. Simply, none of us have been everywhere or had every possible thought.
Life by rationalization. Hmmmm....Good one, Richie!
Chris....I am not doing anything you cannot do.....I do not have access to something you do not have.....in fact I have glimpsed in you a treasure trove of things waiting to come out and go to work. All I did was ask, seek, question, wonder, search, ponder and in the end...learned to do "nothing" correctly. This made me eligible for grace and mercy which transforms all onto the right path.....
In regards to your intellect,..... if it could lead you to where you needed to go....., it would. The fact is it cannot cross over into the other world. Only faith can help you here fueled by desire to know. POINT: Just become a hearer and observer and let the truth feed you soul not your intellect. Open your heart...not your mind.
Your close makes my point........It indicates truth at work in you.......because you are able to see it...just don't analyze it. Just observe and move on.
I enjoy you
