Reaching your Peak on your "Peter's Principle Positioning" in life....

What in the world, you are probably asking - ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT:

Well let me explain:
...this past Monday, Sal was with a Client
...this past Monday, I was here trying to plan the day
...this past Monday, I decided to clean up & rearrange our Garage 'things'
...this past Monday, it really seemed the best use of my time

the garage in question was not dirty;
the garage in question only needed to be swept of the items blown inside by the wind
the garage in question made it clear that a mere sweeping would not cut it al all
so, the garage in question got a full declutter & staging action from me.

By the time that Sal got back from the meet, not only was the garage clean, but it also actually was rearranged in ways that make you ask "why didn't we think of this before?"  Well, we were not thinking of putting the house on the market before--ever--thus why rearrange that to which we were accustomed? No reason to do so.

Since it was  early afternoon  when Sal returned,
since we had at least 4 -5 hours of sunshine left; why  not work on the landscaping also on the same side as the garage?
Why not?  We are capable!
It will be mainly my idea, but that is cool! Sal was already going to pull out all the little plants that grow [from the Bird seed feeders.]
...my concept was that we needed to lift, clean up & straighten all the 18" X 4" X 3" sandstone 'bars'; great idea;
... easy to accomplish; definitely easier to do this than to move the 3 tons of the original delivery stacks;
... these are already in place around the yard; we are only doing this 'refresh' for about 40 running feet; what's the harm there?

Let me tell you, when you discover that you actually have 3 levels of said 18 X 4 X 3 such bars in place the job has been extended expotentially.
Over the past few years each & everyone of those stones {& all the others around the front & along the side fence area AND around the side street island] have lifted and shifted due to the ice, rain, dry periods of weather.
In so doing this simple re fix, it was discovered that the top two levels [of the 40 running feet] needed to be moved out onto the lawn area;

moving them out onto the lawn area involved using the gas trimmer to remove a goodly amount of grass [along the 40 running feet];
removing / trimming to the dirt of the grass indicated that in order to place each 18 X 4 X 3 bar on a level surface, the actual grass, now trimmed to the dirt level, actually needed to be cut away;
after using the not sharp semi-circular step-on edger- cutting away at least 4" of newly trimmed to the dirt grass, ended with a trench of [40 running feet] at least 2.5" deep];
Sal was delegated to place the row of 18 X .... into this trench and I would move the 2nd level out & over to this 18 X 4 X 3 bars now standing on edge;
upon moving what we both thought was the only remaining row of stone bars [along the 40 running feet] we discovered the original 1st level of stone that had been placed there at least 11 years ago that subsequent layers of landscape pebbles / stones covered  totally.

Before I dwell on how HEAVY 3 layers of 18 X 4 X 3 stone bars have now become; let me digress to state that we also decided that the now cleaned up [or soon to be cleaned up area] should be redesigned by moving 3 / 24" square patio 2" thick things in to the areas under our million bird feeders; this then meant that layers of landscape pebbles needed to be raked aside; then, the 3 planters had to be removed on a temp basis; & yadda, yadda, yadda.

Monday, after 5 hours of work, we decided that we should stop for the day & pick up on Tuesday a.m..

We did & we did.  thinking that we only had about 2 hours of work left;
... we tackled the job like true landscape designers.
... After a trip to a local Home Depot to get some small pea gravel type stones;
... after moving all 3 / 24" square patio things;
... after securing one 24" square patio thing AND figuring out how to level it for safety;
... we once again  found ourselves ready to call it quits for the day. Tomorrow [today] we will be able to finish it easily.
We prayed that the rain predicted would arrive early today; it didn't; we were back out there around 10:00 a.m.
Today, the job was completed along with cutting down a vine along the side fence area; moving sedum ground cover to areas that were bare; other smaller items that became noticeable --we finished the Short, Simple, Clean-up of the side yard landscaping.

Peter's Principle ?  A simple landscape job that, on paper, should take about 4 -5 hours, taking place over 3 DAYS with a total of 10 - 11 hours is definitely an example of One's being at the Peak of & over the top of one's abilities.

Thus, we are breathing, groaning, limping [Sal], barely moving humans;
humans who definitely have grown too old, too slow, & way too crabby to do large outside jobs.
  P.S.--That rain we wanted to come this morning--well it is here NOW--at least God will clean up & spruce up the area. LOL and Thank You God.
