Unlike Sonoma County towns of Glen Ellen and Kenwood, I would not call Forestville, CA a tourist destination. It is a secret little treasure for those of us who live in the Wine Country and for several thousand people who have vacation homes here.
Located in west Sonoma County, Forestville sits on the boarder of the Russian River among century old Redwood Trees and mature oaks. It's about a 15 miles east of Santa Rosa. The easiest way to get there is US 101 then heading west on River Road which follows the Russian River all the way to the coast. Forestville is about a 15 minute drive from US 101, and far enough away from the coast that it benefits from great weather, especially in the summer.
There are about 2000 +/- people who call Forestville home. The median income in 2008 was $60,000. The cost of living index is 159, which is considered very high espesially when compared to the national average of 100. Forestville has a main street where most local shopping can be done. El Molino is the high school, and is highly respected in the county.
Unlike other "touresty" communities, Forestville is a local town that serves it's community. People do come here to recreate on the Russian River, and to visit the wineries in the Russian River Region, however, the people you see on the street are the people who live here.
In 2013, 80 homes sold in the Forestville zip code. The median price was $311,000. The low was $45,000 for a 1 bedroom 1 bath 325 sq ft home. The high was $1,100,000 which gets you a 5 bedroom 6 bath 3282 sq ft on 2 acres. Some of the community is served by public water and sewer, and others are on well and septic systems. If you are interested in buying or selling a home in Forestville I invite you to call me. I'd be happy to help you find the perfect property.
