Hey, I'll bet that headline fooled you!

When I said "Skip It," I did not mean to remove Hawley from your itinerary. I wrote this blog after being inspired byHawley Walking Trail a post by The Lovely Wife where she encouraged readers to take a moment from their serious day and let the inner child loose, and SKIP. *post is members only, sorry!*

I took her up on her advice on Tuesday afternoon. I had been out touring homes & property for sale in Pike & Wayne county with the Weichert Realtors Paupack Group "Grand Caravan." (And boy howdy, does our office have a ton of great listings of homes for sale to choose from!!).

Anyway, after a working lunch with some of my comrades at The Cuckoo's Nest (which claims the best food in Bohemia...it's actually the ONLY restaurant in Bohemia, but I digress) we ended back up in Hawley - and as I was walking to my van I noticed the sign for the scenic River Side Park trail behind the office. I thought of TLW's post, and said "I'm gonna do some skipping!"

Luckily, I had my camera with me, as all good REALTORS should, and took some lovely snaps along the way. The River Walk is a short scenic walk along the Lackawaxen River in Hawley and offers some serene scenes and rejuvenating river sounds, along with some pretty flowers here and there, and the freedom that comes from being alone on a beautiful summer day with no particular place to go...for a little while, anyway.

Railroad TracksI walked along the railroad for a bit, and while I didn't exactly skip (I was afraid to...I have never been accused of being graceful or light on my feet) I did leap from railroad tie, to railroad tie...and each time, I thought "Wow, this is fun! I hope nobody is behind me..." A 37 year old woman, dressed in office clothes, leaping on the railroad tracks would certainly raise some eyebrows.

Anyway, it was fun, and thanks, TLW, for the inspiration. I didnt' get hurt, I didn't make a fool of myself, and it gave me a new reason to be proud to call Hawley my hometown.

I thought I would share some of my pictures below. Hawley is a quiet little town in Wayne County (though some of its rural postal customers are actually in Pike County).

There are some charming Victorian homes and buildings to see, antique shops, great food, and some other unique places such as Penny Lane Candy & Candles (with old fashioned candy that isn't easy to get everywhere else), Light Expressions Hand Poured Candles, Black Bear Music Conservatory, Player's Row music store, The Ritz Theater...lots of interesting places to visit or to purchase gifts & collectibles from. Visit the Hawley- Lake Wallenpaupack Chamber of Commerce.

Hi Michelle & Ashley!  thanks for stopping by!  No, it would not be a good thing to see me skip!  You can safely "skip" that idea!  LOL!

It was a really pretty day.  Even though I could hear the traffic from town, the beautiful scenery around me made it all seem perfect.

I have another picture which I'm saving for a separate blog.

Karen...

You did a ROARING good job on this. I love the way you tied it in with your town.

...And I know you enjoyed those few moments of getting in touch with your inner child. More adults need to do that.

Remember if any one ever sees you skipping ... It's a great conversation starter.

Who knows...Your skipping could someday lead to a sale. I love explaining why I appear to be insane :)

TLW...ROAR!

Hey Karen:

Next time you're in the Cuk's say hi to "Verner" for me.

I used to do the railroad track thing between "WackyLaxen" and "Last Hope"

Those were some nice walks.........

Beautiful pictures, Karen. I like the way you tied this together for people who hadn't read TLW's post.

TLW - thanks for the kudo!  I thought you would approve...and I've given up trying to explain my insanity; I just try to keep it hidden.  For 20 years, I've had a key chain on my car keys that says "Certified Crazy Person".  You should have seen me open the door for an auditor one time, when I was Assistant to the Head Cashier at the supermarket: I was wearing a coon skin cap and white plastic sun glasses (back in 1988, when those glasses were "cool").  I certainly made an impression!  LOL (for the record, it was early in the morning before the store opened for business...the auditor was NOT expected, but a SURPRISE VISITOR.)

Victor - I don't think Verner owns the Cuk's anymore, but it is owned by some local folks...I noticed the sign said that our hosts were David & Dawn Bates - and David was a couple years behind me in school.  "Last Hope" - hee hee, we were just talking about that at lunch!  It's now a very desirable location!

Missy - thanks!  I knew some of my readers may not be members, so I wanted to give a brief description.  The pictures got over-optimized a bit...but my favorites include the Queen Anne's Lace - my favorite favorite flower.

Thanks, too, to Paula & Marchel - YES, I switched to Weichert Paupack Group a while ago.  I am very happy there - have my website almost finished (but currently functional), and I just love the busy office.  We had a ground breaking photo taken for the new office, which will be finished sometime in the early fall.  Supposedly there is room for 30 agents - and we have almost that many NOW!  LOL
