Calling out to all the eco-friendly Active Rainers!

By
Real Estate Agent with INET Realty Honolulu, HI 68131

A few fellow agents from my Brokerage have started a group that will be focused in providing real estate services with an "eco-friendly" touch. We have had a couple of brainstorming meetings & are in the process of devising a list of measures to implement in order to fulfill our mission.

It just occurred to me that instead of reinventing the wheel, I should ask for ideas from those of you out there that have already embraced the "green" movement in both your personal & business practices. What are you doing to be keep your carbon footprint at a minimum? Do you have a list of things to do that you share with your clients? I am particularly interested in practices adapted to the warm climate  as I am in Hawaii.

Thank you in advance for your help.  Much Aloha!

* Replace standard incandescent lightbulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL's) and save 75% of lighting costs.

* Just a 5% higher setting on your AC thermostat will save you about 10% on cooling costs.

* When possible, wash clothes in cold water. About 90% of the energy use in a clothes washer goes to water heating.

* Reduce air conditioning costs by using fans, keeping windows and doors shut, and closing shades during the day.
