Last month I attended Rain Camp in Las Vegas. This was an event to share what activerain is and how dedicated the blog platform management is to educating blog participants. We had a fantastic day connecting with people from all over the country. The day was packed with so much great content it has taken time to follow up with all the take aways and share the information! This three part series should make it easy to start to understand how 3 easy concepts help you get good search engine optimization, SEO.
This post is for anyone who does not know much about blogging or SEO. This is SEO 101
The first question you might be asking is... What is SEO or Search Engine Optimization?
"Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a web site or a web page (such as a blog) from search engines via "natural" or un-paid ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results.".
Another term that could be associated with SEO ranking is "google juice." What terms or words can be used and where to increase your "google juice" or increase your SEO ranking.
That being said, do you ever wonder how the popular bloggers manage to get their blogs to rank high on Google, Bing, MSN, Yahoo, and other search engines? In beginners terms, the question is why do some blogs come up on the first page of google or the other search engines.
When I first started blogging, I sure wanted to know. After participating in activerain all the dots have started to come together with how SEO works. At Rain Camp in Las Vegas we heard Ben Kinney present information on this somewhat complex topic. Ben broke down the mystery in easy terms of Getting Your Blog To Rank on a Search Engine.
There are three important elements of your blog that can bring you farther up on search engines:
1. Title
2. Content
3. Tags
If you follow these suggestions faithfully and consistently, you should see a jump in how high up your blog ranks on a search engine. We'll start with part one of three on the title since it's always the first thing you start with.
Title
If you are trying to become the expert in a particular area, be geographically specific when selecting a title. Think of phrases that people would search for. (Or look for some commonly searched phrases using google....) If a buyer were looking for homes in Westminster, Colorado they might type in "homes for sale Westminster Colorado." The buyer might even get more specific with asking for a school district or a subdivision. They might even type in 3 bedroom 2 bath 3 car garage. Put yourself in the buyer shoes and think about what you would type in if you were looking for a home in a specific area. What would you google or bing? Then apply those words in the title of your blog post. Practice and try it. Type in search words on a search engine and see what comes up. Compare what the title is of the information that comes up 1 through 5 and then check the tags or keywords so you can learn what they are doing to come up at the top of the list.
This process is NOT hard. It just takes practice and an understanding of how the search engine works. The search engines are looking at titles and key words or tags and repeated words in the content. SIMPLE.
Use a short Phrase for your title and don't use nonsense words. Remove words from your title that aren't absolutely necessary.
Name it after the keyword phrase you want to rank for. Be sure to choose a phrase that you want to rank for on the search engines. This could be a specific property address, the home style with bedrooms, a community or a subdivision. If your goal is to sell the house you are blogging about you need to have the title reflect what people would search for.
In real estate today you have to think localism. Think about the specific community you want to give the information about. If you are constantly posting information with similar key words or titles your blog will be up at the top of the search. Try it and see.
I recently wrote a blog post on the 2010 Harley Rally to be hosted in Williams, Arizona where I currently live. The title starts: Biker Dudes and H.O.G.Chicks get Ready to Rally Williams Arizona If you search "Biker Dudes Williams Arizona" you will find the post in the top three links on google. The activerain rich content drives the post up to the top of any search engine.
A rain camp may be coming to your area so take advantage of this wonderful learning opportunity, check out activerain university for more details!
Follow the three easy guidelines and you'll Get your Blog to Rank high on a Search Engine before you know it.
