No Signs-Dunes West, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina

There are no "For Sale" signs allowed in my gated community of Dunes West in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.  Is that a good or a bad thing?  I was an on-site agent here for years back when the neighborhood was first under going it's big growth spurt.  In those days the signs were from the developer for lots and builder new homes and the few homes for resale were not an issue.  We had a small window about 5 or so years ago when signs were allowed.  Didn't last long though...even with the regulated expensive wood signs the residents weren't happy. (I have a garage full of those signs now.)

Because we are gated we are not supposed to have drive-by traffic but we do.  As a golf course community that is open to the public people are curious and do take time to drive around.  People come to visit residents and they too drive around. All have no idea what is for sale and what isn't.

My opinion?  Good thing or bad?  Yes, we are a suburb of Charleston, South Carolina.  Yes, people want to live 10 minutes from the beach.  But...big but...do I want signs and lots of them doting the landscape?  I can see it from both sides.  As a Realtor I want people to know I have homes for sale in MY neighborhood but as a home owner I'm not sure I want to advertise just how many homes are for sale and there are quite a few.  Reasons are many but times are tough and homes are on the market longer and there are more of them.

So I think the rules are fine just the way they are.  If we had signs would they be repainted as they fade?  Would the grass be trimmed around them? Would people driving by say why are there so many homes for sale?  Times change and maybe the sign policy will too but for now no signs rule is what it is...OK I can handle that.
