Use Information Overload to Your Advantage

I recently interviewed Joeann Fossland about how real estate agents can best use technology.  She commented that consumers now have so much information that they're overwhelmed.  Here's her quote:

“We’ve all heard that information is power but I believe most people right now are in information overload. Where Realtors really have the value in the transaction is that we can bring the interpretation of the information to the consumer so they’re not overwhelmed and so it makes some sense to them, rather than having them just find the raw data on Zillow or something like that and having the wrong impression of what they’re house should be worth.”

So now, instead of being the gateway to the information, real estate professionals can put that information into context for consumers.  As you speak with sellers and buyers, offer to help them analyze the information that they've found.  Use your blog to explain the data that they see on the Internet.  Include in your "elevator speech" your ability to make the information relevant and useful.  Present yourself as a guide.

We no longer control the information, but we certainly control the insight and analysis of it!  Use it to your advantage.
