A great place to get started is to read the little book, Moving in the Right Direction: The Senior's Guide to Moving and Downsizing written by Bruce Nemovitz.

This book starts by acknowledging the sometimes overwhelming feeling of anxiety leaving a treasured home can bring, and proceeds to outline the benefits that can be obtained with a new lifestyle better suited for today. It goes on to offer ways to make it happen, and the people you'll want on your team.

When I deal with Seniors, I almost always give them a copy of the book--it opens the way to great dialog and finding solutions to their concerns, and helps us reach a good outcome for them.

Lottie - seniors making the transition from home ownership often have a hard time in letting go and downsizing to fit what they require into their new seniors only building with adequate but not generous room sizes and quantities.

Hi Phil - I've gotten many thanks for giving out a copy of the book. Just knowing their feelings are shared by others is a huge relieft.

Skip, people do seem to find the book helpful, which makes me feel good.

Kathy, downsizing is often very hard, whether moving into a condo or a Senior community. This book gives some practical ideas on how to get the process started, and how to feel OK about it.

Another good book for moving seniors is entitled Moving Your Aging Parents by Nancy Wesson. I recently attended a training Nancy conducted and it was extremely informative.
