East petersburg pa events, east petersburg pa homesEast Petersburg residents and friends are cordially invited to a SAFE FAMILY DAY to be held Saturday May 8th, 2010 at the East Petersburg Fire Department grounds. This event, co-sponsored by East Petersburg Borough, East Petersburg Fire Department and Manheim Township Police Dept will be held from 11am-2pm with a child car seat check to follow from 2pm-4pm.

During this event, your family will have the opportunity to learn about emergency preparedness, child identity concerns, fire safety, bike safety and various other topics to ensure that your family will have a safe and fun summer.

One of the highlights of the event will be a bicycle checkup. Is your bike ready to go the distance? Bring your bike and find out if the air level is okay in the tires, is the bike the right size for the rider, does your helmet fit properly and are you aware of the biking rules? Speaking of helmets, the borough will have a limited amount of helmets to sell to citizens (mostly children) for the low price of $10. There will be a stand to allow the children to decorate the helmets with stickers, to encourage the use of the helmets.

Jamie Rohrer, from East Petersburg Fire Department will be available to talk about emergency preparedness for the summer storm season almost upon us.

Mike Reese from Guard-a-Kid will be on hand to provide child identity kits for families. The basic kit cost $20 and can be done at the beginning of the event and the computerized data can be picked up at the end of the event or can be mailed out to you if you prefer. The children’s fingerprints and photograph will be taken by Reese, at the scene.  Reese has many other items for sale that will insure your family’s information is available if an emergency occurs. We will also have a large truck on site that will allow you to witness first hand, the blind spot issue that so many truck drivers deal with on a daily basis. This will show the motorists that truck drivers aren’t “cutting us off” but in fact, never saw us in the first place.

Stadel  Volvo will be on hand with a new vehicle, showing off some new technology, meant to keep our families safer.

The Boy Scouts will also be having Chicken BBQ for sale across the street, so lunch will be available for purchase.

At 2pm Officer Littlehale will be on hand to check out any child car seat you have installed in your personal vehicle.  This will be held in the drive-thru bays of the East Petersburg Fire Department. Please call 569-6401 ext 545 for an appointment.

During this time they willl have multiple events going on to enlighten your family, so come out and join the fun. Start your summer on the right foot, knowing that your family is safer with the knowledge you have gained on May 8th, 2010.

See you there!
