"A DeBary woman was arrested after a Volusia County Sheriff's Office investigation found that she participated in a Nigerian check-cashing scheme that defrauded at least 15 victims of $26,835, sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson said Saturday."  Daytona News Journal Read the full story here

OK so you read right and many will have something to say to those that fell prey to these scam artists.  The truth is not everyone is tech savvy or spend hours on end online or in their email.  Some folks might be desperate or in a desperate situation and lo and behold their prayers are answered.  Money from the net.

Be Careful of Nigerian Scams-Consumer Beware-Many Scams

This scam is different from the Homes on Craigslist or the millions they try to send everyone to safely remove their family inheritance to the U.S.  While this one involved scholarships and rebates, keep in mind, there is a wide variety of these scams going on...and no one should joke about someone being scammed..instead use the energy and inform those who might fall prey to one these schemes.

Read consumer reports on the different types of scams that they have seen and experienced first hand.  Read the reports here.

Be leary of those handing you big bucks via email and you have never met them and they want your very personal information which would include bank account info, social security numbers.

When will consumers understand that, no matter what you pay for that rainbow, there is no pot of gold at the end.

Midori, I would never laugh, it is a tragedy that people take such advantage of others. I am glad they put someone in jail for it. There have to be a million more out there, one down though...

Good idea to let people know.

Lenn-I think sometimes people are desperate...or are hopeful. There is a saying I firmly believe...there is a price for EVERYTHING...nothing is FREE!

Andrea-I don't think anyone would really its just people sometimes have snide remarks to make because you and I know its a scam but not everyone does.

Midori - Greed drives people to expect something for nothing. That's why there will always be suckers falling for such scams and crooks working on new ways to entice others.

It amazes me how many people will actually fall for this stuff. We have the extremists who think anything on the internet is evil, because they can't tell the difference between what's fraud and what's legit, and then you have the people who are just plain clueless.

I have FOUR fraudulent messages that showed up in my AR inbox as soon as the new servers came online! I'm saving them so I can have some fun at their expense >=)

Desperate times for some people will allow them to believe what under "normal circumstances" they would have ignored....consumer beware...always.

We received a call yesterday from a lady who said she looked into a property rental on Craigslist. When she inquired they told her it was for lease and to send $900.  She called us cause it was one of our REO properties and she figured it out and wanted to notify us.

Gary--that's pretty hard of you to say not to trust a Realtor.  A real estate agent, perhaps but a Realtor.  Give us some credit.
