Blogging To Excess? Blogging Cheaters?

As my profile moves up in the rankings, as I blog and invite others to AR I have started to take notice of what it takes it rack up those points.  Blogging is the certain way to gain points.  Daily blogging, and now I see 2 times and even 3 times a day, is what some AR devotees are doing to gain on their "competitors".  Real estate is such a competitive "game".  Even here with AR it is a competition.  But what constitutes a good blog?

I have agents in my area blogging daily about what listings they have or sold?  I ask you...is this a real blog?  If I wrote about every listing and sale that my team is involved in I would have an extra 5,000 points a day.  Perhaps I will write about that new listing in Newton, MA...built in 1991, 2 bedrooms, garage etc...but would anyone care?  Do buyers looking for a 2 bedroom property look here to find out more info?  If so let me know and I will blog to death about Capes and Manor Homes and new construction up and down the Bay State.

So...just let me know...what do you blog about?

Good question - I don't blog about listings though---who cares about that?  I think constantly about what to blog about and then just when I think I have a good one - I log on and puff---someone else already said it.  I think it's difficult to blog about something interesting -- or perhaps I just think too much.  This has been something I have not done well.  I guess I just don't want to blog about something boring, but then I don't blog - so whos better off.  I have been trying to do more localism posts.

James I find that my regional real estate terminology get's a lot of action and my community profiles, too.  Picture expose's of communities and their amenities, proximity to parks, etc.  People like photos.  This is an example of one Bella Terra - Estero Florida .  I not wild about the listings I put up, but I do it to link to the community profile for content weight.

My personal experience is there are not points given for blogs about listings.  As to points, keeping score is almost necessary for the personalities that are involved in selling real estate - we are competitive by nature.  (I personally enjoy AR for the insights in so many areas - personal and professional. Write what you know and love......) All this just to offer on a final note that I may be blog challenged.  One of the professionals will give you a real answer......

"... I would have an extra 5,000 points a day."

James, it would be nice if that were possible, but there is a limit to the number of blog points that one can earn.

You really shouldn't concern yourself with what your competitors are writing, and just write what you want to write. I think people get too stressed out over this.  Yes, there are some people who do it better than others, but just do what you can for now. If you want to write about an experience you had in real estate, that is perfectly alright. This is your blog. Good luck.

James - I thought twice about whether I should give you some clue as to why Realtors are blogging about their listings. After all, you not that far away from me over in Newton. The better part of valuer has got the best of me. You blog about your listing because it has a major impact on SEO! If you don't believe it check it out. Go to google and punch in one of the towns that have "blogged" listings. You will see that google loves blogs! You are also contributing to Localism which has some google juice as well. Personally, I could care less about the points. I am here to increase my business and make myself a better Realtor.

Yes, you DO get points from blogging about listings again.  That was added back a couple of weeks ago.  Also, people can blog 2 or 3 times a day, but they will only get points for 10 within a 7 day period.  AR put caps on the amount of blogs you can get points for because people were taking too much advantage, so you'll see many blogs with a little symbol below the post on the left that says something about no points were given for this post.

James,

I agree with Leon.  Don't worry about it.  I have seen the same situation in my state.  Your blog will speak for itself and the content you put in it!

Hi! I post my listings on AR, but only to localism. It's really as a benefit to the seller, because their home will show up if someone Googles, for example, "homes for sale in Lincolnshire". Most of my posts contain content that would be consumer-related. That's who I am targeting with my blog. My main criteria when I am writing a blog is: "will this be valuable information or interesting reading for consumers?" Then just have fun!

I'm still putting this all together myself.

My non-educated blogging throughs on real estate and listings.  My goal is to create a three way synergy.  1) AR - Localism (property listings) 2) AR - Realtor networking and 3) My website.   My website will have the property details and information, AR Localism - add the listing once but concentrate on area posts and 3) AR - Realtor networking for information and referrals.

Now you know my secrets - will it be beneficial - only time (and implementation) will tell.

Okay, I've learned my little tid bit for the day and its not even 10 o'clock -- I did not know that blogging the listings end up on Google, so sorry to say .............I will be posting one particular listing on here  -- initially I thought like others, I didn't like seeing those listins and I always skipped them and will continue to do so, but will post my own, not expecting anyone here to jump for joy in seeing it, but the focus for me is to get it on Google in another manner.  I am  here to learn, listen to other insight (because two heads or two thousands heads are always better than one).  At the same time, there are "those" that will take advantage of the system and those you can't control or even worry about, if they are that "type" they'll be weeded out on their own.  Sing your song, write your story .....................as I just wrote about this myself!

Have a great day, keep blogging, don't worry about others -- just do your thing!

We don't blog for the points. We blog for the "Google Juice". We read and comment much more than we post. There is an agent in our area (same town) that posts market reports for the same area 2 days after we do. Some people are all about the points. We would recommend posting your listings. There is a group ActiveRain MLS Online. If you post it to localism and use the proper keywords, consummers will find it on Google searches. We have a tracking device that shows us how people find our sites and what keywords they are typing in. It is just MORE (FREE) exposure for your sellers! Good luck!

One of the beauties of Active Rain is that there much diversity covered, even within the Real Estate Community. There are many different subgroups one may join and many different areas of interests to post to. The variety of blogs reflect the diversity offered. Is there a real set definition of blog.....and how to blog.....Blogs which do not interest one person, may interest the next person. If I'm not inteested, I don't continue to read and I definitely will not comment. As far as the points, they are just an extra bonus.

When I see some of my competition writing posts that are copy & pastes of real estate terminology lists, I laugh because I know that my more creative blog will gain more viewers in the long run.  I just blog about what I'm thinking of that day or what I read about.
