WATCH YOUR PETS

When you live in the mountains you learn to watch out for critters that might think your cat or dog would just be a snack.

Hungry Coyote looking for a snack.

We saw this Coyote strolling by as we were puppy watching this afternoon.  You have to keep an eye on the natural preditiors while loving your pets.

Great photo Gerald.  We try to go hiking at least once a week in one of our wilderness areas.  We take our two miniature schnauzers with us, but for their protection, we keep them on leashes.

They can even take down large dogs - watched in horror when a pack of about 6 took down a large lab like a little snack once day!

Gary,

We were actually watching two Miniature Schnauzers when we saw the coyote.  We babysit our pastors dogs when they leave town. Two beautiful dogs

Kasey is on the left and Gracie is on the right.  They lost a six year old last year which was a very difficult one.  They called the breeder in Texas and she said that she didn't know if they would be interested, but she had a three legged dog.  That is how we got Gracie.  She hasn't figured out yet that she only has three legs.  She does stairs, jumps on the furniture and digs just fine.

Rick,

Three years ago our neighbors were walking their dog when a coyote jumped out grabbed it and ran off.  It was still on the leash so they did get the dog back and after a visit to the vet and a few weeks healing Andy was OK.  They can get really brave.

Bob and Carolin,

I'm sure that is a picture that will never leave your mind.  It happens when we encroach too much on their habitat, and of course the pets are a much easier prey than their normal diet.

More opinions than you want to hear about.

Some claim that part of the problem is coyote-dog hybrids that don't have the inherent fear of humans that pure bred coyotes have.  Coyotes have adapted to, and may even be attracted to developed areas.
