It is amazing and true, the Northwest Natural Gas Street of Dreams is running again.  Being a resident of Oregon City, I am proud to invite you to my "neck of the woods", at Marklund Place.

This years homes span a wide variety of styles, space, finish work, and elegance.  While some present a more rustic functionality, others are boldly palatial.  All of the homes, though, are lovely.  The Street of Dreams will be ongoing daily from 11 AM - 10 PM through August 26th.  The website address is www.streetofdreamspdx.com ~ there you will find directions on getting there, a map of the property, and more.  However, there are a few special things that I would invite you to take notice of ~

Every Thursday evening from 4:00 - 7:00 PM, there will be Wine and Jazz nights.  During this time, you will be hearing local jazz musicians as you stroll the newest "dreamy" neighborhood.  You may also be sampling great wines from the Oak Knoll Wineries.  I will be there on the 16th.  If you see me, stop me and say hi!  If you mention that you read this blog, I will buy you a glass of wine....  :-)

On August 11th, it is Ladies Night at the Street of Dreams.  While the normal entrance fee is required, buying a $5.00 VIP wristband allows you access to fine wine, hors d'oeuvres, and more.  So get together your girlfriends, family members, business associates and whoever else you can find who needs a night of relaxing and pampering.  This will be a night to remember!

Finally, I would be silly not to mention this in my blog as I amin the business.  If you or someone you know is interested in purchasing one of these amazing homes, please feel free to give me a call at 503.442.1349.  I obviously know of some great Realtors in this very area.  It is in my "back yard", and I know a great loan consultant who is offering no loan origination fee products for these breathtaking homes...me!  Looking forward to seeing you in the OC, Oregon style!

Street f Dreams? A dream for the arrogant delevlopers, builders, and especially the self serving inconsiderate people invloved with the show. Try Street of Nightmares for each and every buyer of these seriously overpriced houses. Every house was built in less than 6 months. There is NO WAY that any level of quality even close to what a $3 million house deserves could be achieved in 6 months. A savvy person should go into the Street of Dreams repair business, because there will be plenty of work on all of these houses for years to come. If you're in the black mold abatement business, there will also be plenty of work for you as none of these house were properly dried out prior to having all that soaked wood sealed up.

Samuel ~  Thanks for reading about The Street of Dreams and offering your thoughts and concerns.  Your post brings to light a new viewpoint.  One that merits some attention, I believe.

First of all, I agree that the homes are overpriced.  The buyers who purchase them, though, often do so based on the fact that it is a "Street of Dreams" home.  Knowing someone personally who purchased one several years ago, I can say that they fall under that category.  I guess I kind of have looked at it in the context that people pay for brand names in many different arenas -- retail, restaurant, travel arrangements, etc.  Why not in real estate if they so desire?  I would never spend that kind of money on a home just because it was a Street of Dreams, but I certainly would not discourage another individual from doing what they want to with their money.  Secondly, it is my understanding that those homes are very hard to sell.  So, I think that most people would agree that they are overpriced.

As far as the quality used while building the homes, I am no expert, as I have never been out there during construction.  I understand your point, though, as far as drying the home out.  My husband and I are just now starting to build our third home.  Unlike many people, I do understand that the quality of materials under the finery is more important and actually critical to the home.  I would hope that with the money these builders are charging in the sale of these homes that they are spending more in preparing it.  In other words...is there a way to dry it out before sealing it other than time?  Just a thought.  In no way, however, am I defending any building that has been poorly crafted.  I cannot say that I have ever heard that to be the case with the quality of homes being built by those builders.  Again, as I know someone who currently resides in one of them, they have never mentioned any problems (and if there were a problem, I would have known about it).

When I have gone to the Street of Dreams, I go to see a lot of things that are not even included with he home.  As a female type, I enjoy seeing the home decorating/staging professionals ideas.  Particularly if I am looking for an idea on what to do with a space.  It allows me to pay $10 - $15 for an expert's ideas rather than hundreds of dollars for them to come out to my home.  Then, I can go find look alike items for less money than they spend on the homes.  So that is my favorite part of the Street of Dreams.  Many women agree with me; we often go with several couples, and we girls find great things to chat about!

Finally, it seems to me that you are passionately against the Street of Dreams.  May I ask if you have had personal experience where it was negative to that degree?  If so, please let us know.  Your personal experience may allow someone who needs insight before purchasing, some clarity.  You may have first hand knowledge that others cannot obtain. The purpose of this blog is for our state, community, city, etc. to have an open dialogue and discussion about things.  I hope that it would be used as a forum where people can voice their opinions and be heard.

Thanks again for your thoughts.  I hope to hear from you soon.  Enjoy your weekend!!

Best Wishes,

Sarah
