Every weekend, my husband and I try to take a hike, weather permitting, that allows us to take in the beauty of Colorado. We are so close to so many parks and trails...easily to forget what a short distance they are...but over Mother's Day weekend we managed to include a 3.5 mile hike along with our dog, Jake.

Bear Creek State Park is just less than 10 miles from our home in Lakewood. Saturday, my hustand, Jim, had taken our dog, Jake, for a good walk up into the foothills. Jim complianed a bit about the crowds, so on Sunday morning, we decided to take on Bear Creek State Park.  We manage to find a parking place at the neighboring golf course, Fox Hollow, and proceeded to walk into the park.

The weather was absolutely agreeable....sunshine and cool temperatures....at first, Jake was pulling at his leash with the enthusiasm of a puppy....gradually, he relaxed and enjoyed the hike as we had hoped to.

With Jim overseeing Jake, I was able to take in the views, plants and activities. As we first began, we were overtaken by bicyclists....who were climbing the trails up to higher levels...

As we climbed, I found lovely native flowers on the trails.....as I watched for snakes and other not so welcome creatures....

One of my favorite phots is when I reached the ridge...I saw horseback riders, hikers and cyclists all sharing the same space. This is truly Colorado.....note the cyclist in the distance under the horses legs...

All that is missing is my husband and dog......hikers, cyclists and horseback riders...all sharing the same space. THAT IS COLORADO!

We continued on our hike with the views just overwhelming us. Spottedf a fisherman on the lake with his dog....

The views where beatiful....

The early wildflowrs simply beautiful....

The wild larkspur was hard to see, but it is such a lovely wildflower.

Having only had a few hours, we managed a 3.5 mile hike, a gorgeous time in the beautiful Colorado outdoors...and a lovely time together....
