Mt. Pleasant Rec Dept. Lacross Tournament
It brought back such memories of late summer soccer tournaments in Bucks Country PA. I remember being so excited the day before and the morning of the games. Everything from the trip to the fields, saying "Hi" to my teammates and coaches and the smell of the freshly mowed green grass made my excitement grow even stronger. That excitement lasted until the end of the first game when the realization of the situation settled in. I was hot, tired, hungry and there were still two, maybe three more games to play. Somehow, I always lasted until the last whistle and loved every minute of it.
This morning my husband and I took our two small children, too small yet to participate in team sports, to the Park West, Mt. Pleasant Recreation Department http://www.mtpleasantrec.com/index.cfm?section=1 fields to watch their cousins play in a lacrosse tournament. It was hot and the grassy, green fields smelled the same as the soccer fields did when I played, even if the chalk lines were in the "wrong" spots and the goal nets were too small. We didn't last long at all as my little girl got sick to her stomach 10 minutes into the first game, but we were there long enough for me to came away with a couple pretty cool observations.
I was reminded yet again what a wonderful place Mt. Pleasant is to raise a family, especially an athletic one. Kids can participate in so many wonderful sport programs during all seasons. From soccer, football, basketball, lacrosse and swimming there is no shortage of choice.This may not make Mom and Dad happy as they may never get a car pool break. However, from the all around athlete or the child that wants to give something a try for the first time there is something for everyone!
The second thing that really struck me was the degree to which kids are still basically the same as when I was growing up in Solebury, Pennsylvania. Children still love to run and have fun and throw around a little competitiveness. It doesn't matter if you go home and play Atari or Wii, kids spirits are and will always be the same. I can't wait until my little ones are old enough to play on their first teams. I guess I can wait another year! Posted by Krista Barnes at 1:41 PM 0 comments
