365 Things To Do In Austin, Texas: Foster An Animal From the Austin Humane Society

I have such a soft spot when it comes to our city's furry friends. I love that we live in a city that embraces animals and have so many pet friendly places.

This is a great opportunity for people that are animal lovers and are looking for a way to help out our Austin Animal Kingdom, Foster a Furry Friend. To sum it up, sometimes animals are too young for adoption, have special needs, or the shelter is just filled to capacity.

It is essentially what it sounds like, you "foster" an animal until it is ready for adoption, surly there are plenty more details but you get the picture.  I think this scenario is perfect for animals lovers that cannot commit to a full time pet.

To become a Volunteer you must attend a Volunteer Orientation - they can give you the detailed rundown of how it works.

I know that this is a big commitment but for the right people it could be a win-win situation.

Now for everyone that just cannot commit to fostering an animal you can help in other ways by donating items. Here is a quick summary of things they are always on the lookout for. I recently took some doggy treats to a shelter that I had leftover from  the Mighty Texas Dog Walk and they were so grateful for the donation. Remember, a little donation from you can make a big difference in the lives of these animals.

Hi Kristy: Wonderful post about helping our animal friends with lots of options for different levels of help. We have 3 Pasadena Humane Society adoptees and we support the shelter by shopping for our pet food and supplies in their store. My husband and I also visit the shelter several times per month and pass out treats to the inmates.
