From the Jewish Business Magazine
Ryan Afromsky is a visionary. While Ryan was in college, he came up with an idea for a grilled cheese concept restaurant. Following his graduation and a few years of working in restaurants led Ryan to a dream turned into reality. What was once a picture of a grilled cheese sandwich in a magazine, soon turned into a restaurant in Culver City, CA called meltDOWN etc. At just 26, Ryan built the restaurant into an overnight success. The buzz alone garnered media interest and exposure with Ryan appearing in numerous print articles and even on TV. Based on a variety of grilled cheese sandwiches, meltDOWN etc was a cheese-lovers dream that served the ultimate comfort food.
While reading a number of books to his three-year old nephew one night, a thought popped into his head. “Why not tell my story to young children.” A few nights later was this thought truly recognized when Ryan woke up in middle of the night to create, “I Have A Restaurant.” Based on a day at meltDOWN etc., Ryan incorporated all aspects of his daily life at the restaurant he built and created into the book. Ryan explains an entire day with all of its parts, ups and downs, so children would see that there is more to food appearing in front of their faces magically….but it doesn’t end there. Ryan’s dream is to write more books about professions and jobs so children will get an insight into how the business world works in a fun and informative manner. Ryan was lucky enough to team up with Emmy® Award winner Ron Noble to illustrate the book and the rest is history. Ryan wants to share the importance of reading and education with the younger generation by reading to children and giving back. In 2010, Ryan has appeared at readings and book signings, (with more on the way) but most of all he enjoys sharing his work and experiences.
Ryan’s father had a large clothing business and this influenced him in many ways. The entrepreneurial spirit of his father motivated Ryan to follow his own dreams. Being of the Jewish faith, Ryan was always taught to work hard and give back to the community, much like his father did. His family and faith taught him to be diligent and never give up and look where it got him today!
