Linkedin is one of the best sites that allows you to network with other professionals that eventually could become business prospects. The site could be a good source of potential referrals if you build relationships with those in your network.
If you do not have a complete profile I would encourage you to work on it. Take a look at my Linkedin profile and you can see there are a number of things you can do to promote your page including having your blog articles fed right into the site. Looking at my Linkedin profile you will notice that both my Active Rain Posts along with my Massachusetts Real Estate Blog on Wordpress are both fed into the site.
You will also see that my Twitter feed is sent to the site as well. The more information your page has the better. There are many consumers that will search out Realtors and others in the profession just for the sole reason that they understand how social media can be used to promote their business. We all know just how powerful the Internet has become for those seeking to find a great professional to work with.
Joining local and national groups is also something you can do to share your expertise. If you are a member of any of the popular Real Estate groups you will see that I am an avid fan of sharing some of the better Real Estate articles that I have written. What are you waiting for? Linkedin is another way to better your social media marketing presence!

Great info and find on LinkedIn Bill! The groups are really the best... There's even an AR one. I can't get my AR blog to feed in (have tried over and over) but once I get my outside one started I'll bet that will work. It really is terrific source for staying in touch with past clients...
Bill I have been on Linkedin for a number of years and this is the first time I've seen a way to really utilize it! This would be a great featured post too,Thanks!
Excellent post Bill, thanks. I have been on Linkedin for some time but do not utilize it as I should. Thanks for the info, I will be improving my page soon...
Thanks everyone for all your comments. Linkedin is a very good source of sharing your information. Study my page and see how I have done it. Join groups and network with others!
I posted a page, add the occasional person, haven't been to active on there though. I spend some time on facebook, staying on top of mind with people I graduated w/ a few years ago, however, haven't been able to make any new contacts. I think i'm going to have to dedicate a little more time to Linkedin after reading this post of yours Bill. You've given me a little inspiration my friend. BTW - Is that wordpress blog of yours new?
Great advice Bill. I think many folks signed up a long time ago and don't realize the power behind linkedin toda. I do feed my blog in but need to check on my Twitter account.
Not sure I want my tweets going there, as some are silly.
Hi Bill! Like Missy said, I was first on a long time ago but, have tried to keep up with it as well as FB, Twitter, AR, Trulia...the list goes on and on! HOWEVER, the leads that you get from LinkedIn are SOLID and I highly recommend it as well. I need to tweak mine though and as always, you've inspired me to do so!
Bill - Lewis has done a good job of positioning himself as the "go to guy" for LinkedIn. I have used the site more often over the past year, but it still has yet to result in any tangible results. However, I am certainly open to learning more.
Bill, thanks as always for this great information. I don't know how you constantly come up with such unbelievable content for your posts, but you are a true asset here on AR and I don't know where we'd be without you. We have our profile at 100% complete, but still need to use LinkedIn better as I see it as a great source of future business, at least for us.
Cool post Bill, I watched the video and decided to try it out. I was on page 3 for linked in search prior to starting. After spending two minutes making the cahanges I was #4 on page 1. #s 1,2,and 3 were also me just different sources including activerain of course.
I guess I should say thank you. So after I blog in three places, update websites, Tweet, go to facebook, post a reveiw on Yelp, let people know where I am on Foursquare, I will now go to linkedin.com. However, it looks like i can't just sit by and just be on linkedin.
Glen - Congrats that is great. Just a few tweeks on Linkedin can make a big difference.
Joe - The beauty of what I have shared here is that you do not need to visit Linkedin. Do it once and you are done other than sharing articles to specific groups.
That is awesome. I did a search of Linked In for my key words and I was a few pages in. I just went into my Linked In profile, made the adjustments, and now I'm #1. Thank you, thank you. Nothing like some quick SEO.
Great info Bill. I'm an active LinkedIn user. I figure if I am going to take the time to set up a profile, I may as well do it right. I also have a LinkedIn button on my email signature so people can find me that way if they prefer.
I can relate to some of the other commenters who mentioned having linkedin pages but not knowing how best to utilize them. I will re-visit my account. Great blog.
Bill -That was a great video. Thanks for providing it to us. I worked a bit on mine in the past but did not know the 'tricks' nor had the time to research. I'm going to check into those 5 places Lewis talked about and make changes/additions. Thank again. You are always SO helpful.
Bill, I made the changes as suggested in the video, we'll see if it gives me a boost. Next I need to figure out how to get my WP blogs to autofeed there.
Your blogs are always so incredibly informative. It inspired me to work on my profile. I guess that I can't link my AR blog-someday I will check out WordPress but have sooo much more to do before that.
Thanks for posting my video Bill. Hope everyone has enjoyed it, and I have a ton more videos on how to build your buyers list, and attract investors for your homes at http://www.lewishowes.com
Thank you for posting this Bill. It was very helpful information. I was especially struck by how he adds value to the group experience through sharing great ideas.
Thanks Bill for sharing this info. I have been on LinkedIn for awhile; however, just recently have increased my efforts by joining groups and getting more connected. I think it is like any type of marketing, you get out of it what you put into it and consistency is crucial.
Thanks again for sharing!
Hi Bill -- I just spend the past 20 minutes updating my Linkedin profile thanks to you, so thanks! :) I just added some groups as well as listened to the video to take advantage of some SEO.
That is so cool! I'm going to try it right now and see what it does. I want to be #1. Be back!
I'm Back! I'm #1 out of 4,333. Not bad. That is very satisfying.
Thanks.
Bill, Thank you for the great information and such a great example profile. I've been on linked in for a while, but not paid much attention to it. Facebook. Twitter. LinkedIn. Information overload!!
I am glad everyone liked the Linkedin article. If you follow all of my tips and what the video tells you to do you will be at the top of the search for your area!
Bill--Great stuff, as usual. I have found you to be one of the most generous of people on ActiveRain. You understand extremely well the BNI concept that "givers get"
Bill, this is yet another gem that you have shared with us. Thank you so much. I'm not putting much into my LinkedIn account and need to straighten that out!
It worked. I'm now number one for all of the search terms I wanted, and also created a new group dealing with Alabama land for sale. You're the man. Thank you for sharing what you've learned.
You never let me down, Bill! Great info AND it WORKED! And as for Randy's question, maybe it makes a difference where you're located. If you're in a Podunk...anywhere...probably not a big plus to join Linked in. BUT it's a great referral source here in Phoenix.
Awesome post and thank you also for sharing. Obviously I went and changed my LinkedIn information immediately and sure enough ranked right up to the top for my chosen search of custom home builder. It surely speaks to the power of LinkedIn and helps to make sense of all engine optimizations as well.
Great job, I look forward to seeing more from you.
Hey Bill.....You have shown me so many outreach opportunities. Thanks for this...one in a long line...much appreciated. ..and one I will share with my broker team.
Hi Bill, As usual - great article. I have a LinkedIn account which I feed my blog to but don't do much else with it. Now I'm motivated to tweek it based on the video you shared with us. Thanks.
Bill you're the best. I joined Linkedin when it seemed to be in it's infancy. I had sent out many requests way back and funnily enough so many people are just jumping on the bandwagon now and accepting my request and I don't even remember sending them lol.
As you know this is just another avenue and I like that it is the professional arm of our social media networking.
Thanks everyone for all your comments on getting an improved Linkedin profile. As I have already mentioned if you follow these steps you will be #1 in your area!
After working and trying other names I went from #1 out of 4,333 to #1 out 844,667. That was a HUGE jump. That was awesome. Thanks a lot for this great tip.
Boy, it took a long time getting to the end of this page!! Like everyone else I really appreciate the aids you just gave. I also went to your web page and facebook business page to get a better understanding of the best way to use Social Media. I understand how important it is, I am just slow at picking it up; writing is not a strong suit of mine. Thanks for the help.
Lots of great info! Sometimes I am afraid to read your posts cause I know there is going to be homework...haha! But I really do appreciate all your knowledge! I need to learn to be a better student :)
Thanks for the information. I bookmarked it for when I get a chance to go through it. I am on LinkIn, but really do not do too much with it, so this is good information.
In order to get clean results on a Linked In search would you have to delete Linked In's cookies first? Please share. Inquiring geek for brains needs to know :)
Thank you very much for sharing this. I just did some editing on my LinkedIn profile already. I am going to check out your profile so hopefully I can gain some more tips. Have a great weekend. Great post.
Susie you do not need to put your keywords in your title as you mention to rank #1. I don't have a your profile so I can't see what you did but trust me that is not necessary nor could you possible even fit them all anyway.
I have a ton of catching up to do, but your continuous insights, tips & directions are so appreciated. I love your clarity on all these connections. Very valuable!
Thanks Bill. I hadn't really used LinkedIn much, now I am busy making changes! I'm not tech savy but I was able to figure out how to link my WordPress blog from my website into LinkedIn. Yeah! Question though, any idea how to do that in Active Rain? All I can find is setting up a new Outside Blog and I don't want to do that. I just want to have my WordPress blogs show up in Active Rain like on LinkedIn. Any idea how to so that? Thanks for any insight.
Bill - I beefed up my profile over the past week or so. Thank you for all of the tips. Do pay the premium on Linkedin to send msgs to potential clients?
Bill, Thanks for sharing, great tips. I would like to return the favor and share a LinkedIn tip:
YOu can edit your website and blog descriptions: go to Profile, edit, and click on the edit tab to the right of "my website", then click on the drop down arrow next to the first column, and select Other, then in the second column type in the title of your blog or website, and in the thrid column type in the URL. This will increase key word opportunity on your profile. You can check my LinkedIn profile at http://www.linkedin.com/in/sylviezolezzi. Good luck.
Hello Bill, thanks for the post. So far the main tip Lewis gave has not brought me the results I'm looking for. However, I will continue to tweak my profile and see if I'm missing something.
Thanks for the post Bill. I'm very active on Twitter and Facebook (wordpress too) but have yet to really get involved much with LinkedIn, beyond the simple profile page. I'll check this out.
Thanks Bill for all the great info and vids. LInkedin is more about referrals and you cant complain about getting a nice little ref fee by just being infront of them.
