Flume Gorge...and the Indian Head, Lincoln New Hampshire

The flume Gorge is in Lincoln New Hampshire, most would call it the entrance to the Franconia Notch State park. Both of these descriptions are true...it is a state park, but folks from Lincoln want to make sure you know what town it really is in.

The Famous Indian Head Motel is one of the last places along Rte 3 in Lincoln that you can stop, drink, sleep and eat before entering the State park lands...and but a few hundred yards from the Flume. The observation tower offers a clear view of Mt. Indian head which is a really nice hike for an intermediate hiker not too hard, but not too easy either.

The peak of Mount Liberty still has a bit of snow, which is the water feed for the Flume gorge.

The entrance of the Flume where tickets are sold, and to great you inside a variety of artifacts including this stage coach. There is also a history of the logging industry, a stuffed bear and a bunch of trail maps to get you around the area. The Flume is an easy stroll, but many of the other trails are only for the seasoned hikers especially the Appalachian Mountain trail which runs from South Carolina to Maine (and bisects a trail near by).

The Gorge is really quite a site to walk through, and a nice place to be when it starts to gets really hot out.

 

The other end of Franconia Notch State Park is Echo Lake,more hiking and a lake to cool off after a long day.

The note on the left bottom "you are here" is the flume...the other end of the 6,500 acre state park is Echo lake and Cannon Mountain Ski Area. If you would rather the theme park setting one mile south is the Whales tail water park and Clark's trained bear show.
