9 Comments on The Lure of Urban Living-Is it Calling You?
Gerry, I have read that the young professionals are moving back to the cities, and suburbs are becoming the undesirable places to live. Interesting change over time.
Good post Gerry. We are seeing the same thing happening in the Atlanta market. Hopefully if the trend gets big enough, taxpayers can place more demands for city schools to improve. Unfortunately whether you have kids in the system or not, you're still paying the taxes for it.
Gerry I have always thought that urban areas were the hub or heart of a city. Having come from Detroit where downtown was a mecca of activities (living and entertainment), moving to Birmingham was a bit of a disappointment in that regard. Metro Birmingham has other attributes, but I still believe a vibrant community with emphasis on its city center is the lifeline of any city.
Gerry, The idea of living above a thriving downtown business is catching on and Washington City has planned out a downtown area such as this. I think this type of community is ideal for business people who want to have a storefront business and live above it.
Gerry,
Before moving to Dallas I lived in a very rural area (6 acres) in the middle of nowhere. Today we live about 1/2 mile from downtown Dallas, and love it.
Hi Gerry! Urban living is BIG here in Charlotte too! I admit that I live in the burbs but, when I'm Uptown with the vertical living and the energy of the urban area, I get the fever to move up there!
Love your streetscape shot too--just gorgeous!
Hi Gerry. Great Localism post. I think we are seeing this too. The sidewalks of Baltimore City near the water are over run by families and strollers. The parks are being well used too.
We still live in the country, but are planning on the big move to the city fairly soon....
My husband and I are facing the same issue. We are under contract right now and plan on moving into a townhome we own. We are ready to have less and be able to travel more!
