The Waconia Fire Department is currently comprised of 35 volunteer/paid on call members. In 2009 the department was paged a total of 345 times however 57 of these pages were cancelled and didn't need the fire department after all. So a total of 288 visits were made.
The majority of these visits, 121 to be exact, were coded "Medical". This is a service provided to anyone when there is life threatening injury, feeling very ill, injured and/or traumatized. This does not include people who were traumatized in a personal injury accident. Fire Alarms resulted in 46 of these calls. This includes smoke detectors, heat detectors, and any other alarm that might be connected to the fire alarm system and it captures all structures. Actual fires resulted in 21 calls.
There was property damage as a result of fire in Waconia. A total of $732,550 for the city of Waconia and $11,000 for Waconia Township. Certain areas of the community summoned the fire department multiple times. Westview Acres called on 21 occassions, Lighthouse senior Living called 19 times and School District #110 called 10 times.
The average response time for 2009 was 3 minutes 0 seconds. Response time is the time the 1st page is activated until the first apparatus checks into service with dispatch. Response time for 2009 is the same as it was for 2008.
