Twitter, Facebook, etc. doesn't work for the over 50 crowd-for the most part!

Twitter, Facebook, etc.  doesn't work for the over 50 crowd-for the most part!  OK, how many of you are involved in these new technological situations?   The only reason I am is b/c my children almost mandated it!

When our 50's crowd was growing up, or at 6 years old...we had 2 party phone lines...we played outside, and it was safe in our neighborhood.

In high school, we had a single line, and we drove our parents nuts by being on the phone all night...after all if Mom wanted to talk to her friends, she could do that all day while we were in school.

Then, some of us went to college...graduated and then there was the "bag phone".  It was around the 90's, cost over $500.00, and weighed about 20 pounds...but those of us who were "on call" needed it...

Then at the same time, we were trying to figure out what a computer was, how to use it, and why we were scared to use it...

Now, there is Twitter (which I'm not sure why anyone would want to share their daily activities), Facebook, (which is kind of cool, since I was able to get back in touch with member's of my high school, and college class mates).

AND, other mechanism's (SKYPE - HEY I worked with my Dad in 3rd grade on a project that said, "One day we will be able to see and talk to someone on another phone line!  My Father was a genious, God rest his soul."

So, WHAT DO YOU, THE OVER 50'S crowd thing about all this new technology?  Are you adapting?

Karen - for a grandmother of six  some of my younger clients are very surprised at the mount of technology we "older agents" are using

I disagree. The Baby Boomers are using technology....trust me, I'm one of them.

And this year, I taught myself how to design Websites and I most Active 55 and over folks ask, does the  clubhouse have Wi-Fi?

Before my mother passed away at age 82, I taught her to use the internet, kept her mind active.

Hi Karen:  Since, I am not over 50 I will tell you about my husband as he is way over 50!  He is doing just great - his facebook account is much larger than mine as far as "Friends", His linked In has almost 700 contacts.   He is not a blogger but likes the platform of Linked In and the groups.  I think it depends on the person and their industry!

I disagree.  We may not have an interest in Twitter/Facebook for personal use.  We have much more in our lives than online "friends".

However, if you're in business and believe that these online advertising sites are good business, age has nothing to do with it.

It's business.

I totally disagree.  I'm in my 50's and am constantly asked by my younger friends about how to utilize technology.

To all,

Hummm....I'm not talking about me,,,just the customers that I am dealing with...we as Realtors do use the most recent technology to do our jobs!  I still find it interesting that there are still people out there, that don't use the internet.

Lenn,  sometimes yes and sometimes no...

Thank you all for commenting!

Karen, the fastest growing demographic on FB is 50-65 year old women. I honestly don't know how many of my present and past customers are on Facebook and Twitter because I haven't made a concerted effort to find out. I need to do that.

HI Karen, Sharon is right about the demographics.  In fact, if Facbook was a country, it would be the third largest.  I will get you a link a social media e book for realtors and how you can implement social media into your business.  Just think - another compartment to allocate a block of time!

Also you can automatically set tweets on Twitter and continue your super star status

If you blog about this, then at least it drew your attention. Yes you may get spam messages or emails, but that would prove the site is so popular, it attracts regular users, so as the spam/virus too.
